Sounds like the only option would be a 2 piece Glenn, wouldn't want to die now would we. I know plenty of people still living with a one piece. I have had a one piece built by Ken Hastings Balancing Services, a place that builds proper tailshafts and balances them properly and has done for a very very long time and 1 piece was what they recommended going for. Haven't had an issue (and haven't died from it). Tell us why not Glenn

As above, lots of people are running a 1 piece.

I will be getting one made up also once my diff is finished.

Im not sure how many people would be running a tailshaft loop though, but it may be a good idea to chuck one on too.

well you know if you are doing 8000 rpm with a 1 peice so is the tail shaft ,but what happens when you hit 5th the tail shaft is going faster than motor speed. 1 sprinter on chasers dyno had 1 let go
my mates under 2 litre sports sedan let go twice until he went to a 2 peice
some thing to do with frequencys and 4 cyl harmonics single tail shafts seem to whip
even the falcons are speed limited for this reason aluminim shaft and single
i take it yours is a 3inch dia shaft or 3.5 inch then
and what revs are you taking it up too

    This isnt entirely correct.

If you are doing 8000rpm in a gear with 1:1 ratio the tailshaft will be doing the same. For a stock ae86 that will be 4th gear...Indeed in 5th gear the tailshaft will be rotating faster than the engine. For the other 3 gears the tailshaft will be rotating slower. So it depends which gears/rpm you will be using.
You can figure out the max rpm your tailshaft would experience, I assume this is for a race car. A good tailshaft/diff shop will be able to figure out with you the best size etc if you wanted to single piece.

I would be interested to know more about this 4 cyl harmonics thing? Anyone help with that?

Also weve been running a 400whp torana with a single piece tailshaft for over 3 years without problems, that is being raced around once every 3 months or so. I think it has a 3.5" steel tailshaft, not sure on exact specs. It sees 7000rpm also, dont know if this will help the discussion though...

Mine is 3" with upgraded uni's. But do run a tailshaft loop/hoop.

some of the shops I have worked at, have been running 4in singles in 600-1000hp drag cars, for years without any dramas. From 8sec 4cyl subi's to 6 sec v8 camaros, and everything in between.

Edit: before the argument of how those particular cars only run for 8secs at a time, keep in mind the amount of time they spend on a chassis dyno.

I can't confirm if this is true but apparently the corolla panel vans run a single from factory. As for letting go I don't see why they would, harmonics or not. Even then just run a loop.
