    Hey guys,

I started my project AE86 back in 2006. Over the years I've been doing bits and pieces to it, but the last couple it's stayed stagnant. I've got my own house now (including a sweet shed!), but between barely getting by with crappy pay, looking after the house, being away from home for 12+ hrs each day and now having a 1-year old running around, I've come to realize it's just not going to get finished.

I've sunk about 23-25k into it so far, and yes I know I won't get that back. It's a shame that I'll get rid of it before enjoying it, but it was a great learning experience and that's something I won't remember. Learnt so much about general mechanical and car makeup.

The problem is that I've been out of the scene for a while, and have no idea what it's worth. If someone could help give me some ballpark figures, I'd be most grateful. Both as a whole and parted out (yep, I'm willing to take it apart to get better dosh). Here's a rundown:

    • Great condition shell. No rust in it at all. The only things I could fault would be some small holes I made to install the fuel system (which I wasn't happy with so took out), but these could even be filled by rubber grommets if needed. It's been painted (albeit at home), but looks pretty good for the whole. In acrylic too, easy to touch up after drift damage.
    • Bolt-in half-cage. Bought it off Gilly.
    • AE101 4AGZE block and head. Got a new timing belt put on it a few years back and it's done no kms since then.
    • No supercharger on it anymore, but a brand new GT2560R (I think... it's the aftermarket version of the T28BB).
    • TRD engine mounts.
    • Braided lines around the turbo.
    • All RWD gear from a 4AGE, no cut n shut parts.
    • 440CC injectors.
    • Microtech LT10S including hand controller. Still on base maps. The car has been started so the wiring is good, but I never got the car to a level where I started tuning it.
    • Aluminium tube feed line (I think it's 8mm?), which replaced the breather.
    • SARD rising rate fuel regulator.
    • Removed from the car, but I have a fairly good sized Walbro EFI pump and a Facet lifter pump. Cylinder surge tank (with square base) with huge outputs I got from Rocket Industries.
    • Koyo aluminium radiator (52 or 56mm thick).
    • B&N remote engine oil cooling system, includes a small radiator and a remote mount oil filter. (Made a bracket up, sits on the block but at the front now)
    • Cusco master cylinder stopper.
    • Custom handbrake lines. Harder to sort than you'd think!
    • Brakes from the AE101 I got the engine out of, with specially engineered brackets made by TBS in Capalaba.
    • I think I got new rotors, but I'm not sure about the pads.
    • Coilovers up front, traditional setup in the back. Both have KYB adjustable shocks, with Cusco hats on the coilovers. AJPS springs on the rear.
    • Whiteline sway bar.
    • T3 RCAs.
    • Whiteline front strut brace.
    • Rear brace type thing that has harness mounts on it. (Was from a group buy on here, really good piece of kit!)
    • F-series diff with TRD mechanical 2-way.
    • One piece tailshaft, custom made of course.
    • Generic intercooler, quite a large one. Mounts welded onto the front of the car. All pipework has been done too.
    • Turbosmart (I think) blow off valve, plumb-back type and not atmo venting.
    • Internal wastegate on the turbo was welded up, now have a Tial 38mm (again, I think) external gate. All plumbed back in.
    • 3" exhaust with brand new cat. Goes under diff, but has a flange just before the diff so you can just remove the back part if you want to work on the rear suspension. Muffler has a silencer.
    • Brand new starter motor.
    • Niteparts bellhousing.
    • Brand new Excedy cushioned button clutch.
    • Freshly machined flywheel.
    • W58 that was supposedly out of a manual non-turbo JZA80. Does not have a shifter (failed trying to mod it to fit better).
    • Fibreglass dash.
    • Streeter by Streeter bodykit, painted but unfitted.
    • GReddy turbo timer.
    • GReddy boost controller.
    • Elevo steering wheel.
    • Most of the stock interior parts other than seats.
    • A couple of AW11 seats with rails, that are unfitted.
    • Simmons 3 piece wheels with brand new Nexen tyres on the front I think.
    • Few other things like a turbo blanket, coloured vacuum lines, so on and so forth. Think I've covered most of the main stuff though!

This car wouldn't be hard to finish, but just requires more money and time than I have access too. Things I think it still needs or requires attention:

    • Bolts holding the flywheel on to the clutch. Pretty sure I put spring washers under them.
    • Requires fuel system reinstalled, or installation of a JDM system.
    • Seats need to be mounted. I couldn't see how the AW11 seats would bolt in, but I'm an office bitch, so I was probably making a stupid mistake.
    • If it was me I'd weld up the holes I made, but that's not 100% necessary.
    • I did make up a chunky gearbox mount, but it's sitting too low.
    • Clean up the paint here and there. It's 99% but it's suffered a few chips in the moving it's survived.

So yeah, any idea what it's worth? Or how much I could get for certain main pieces/packages?

I would say that you would make more of your money back if you part it out, probably not something you would like to do but not many people do

Edit: Jakel, I know mate, it's going to be crushing if there is a huge difference in parting it out, with it ending up being really the only way to go. Hopefully there's someone who was in the same boots as me back in 2006, and will realize that this is a huge step in the right direction for them. I don't mind losing a bit of money if someone wants to buy the whole thing. I'd really friggen love to see someone finish it! I think seeing that would make me a lot happier about the whole situation.

Forgot to add too, it has a Whiteline panhard rod too. Not something huge, haha, but it has it. I really went to town on this car...

I'm in almost the exact same position! i put my 4agte ae86 up for sale about a week ago, same running gear, hks 2510, respryed, no rust, is complete and ready to go making 180rwkw is up for $10k but unlikley to get it, would be hapy with $8k, would be easyer to sell as parts but for conveinience want it gone as a whole.

Definatly feel your pain. on the flip side, when you are in a position to get another one you know you can buy somthing really good for stuff all!

judging by the pics you have posted 8 - 10 K would be your asking price....
i know its a bit gutting to hear considering you have said a 23 - 25K spend on the build...
in the end of the day its hard to justify that money for what you see...
you have to weigh up is it worth the loss... because you will loose 10K easily if not more...
i dont know.. imo with this spec about i dont think it would be worth parting out...
there arnt many "golden parts" so to speak that guys are going to want to snap up.

ok your engine will go, the F diff, W58, Tail shaft, engine x member.... radiator... but the rest you may have sitting around for a while...
mid you this is just my opinion.. i may be totally wrong... im just trying to give you some insight.

    say you get...2 - 2.5k for the engine/ecu, $600 - 800 for the W58, $350-400 for the tail shaft, F diff... $1700 ....$100 for the x member, radiator.. is it genuine koyo?
    streeter kit - $500.... coilovers - 800 ish...

its much of a muchness really...

hope it helps to give you some idea of what your up against...

Leave it in said "sweet shed" put a cover over it, forget about and come back to it when you have the time money the patience to finish it. Could only imagine the regret years later down the track.
if u got 10k realistically it gets you nothing these days and.it would go in a sec. Then you'd have nothing to show for the years of hard work and $$$ put in it.

so what it takes another 10-15 years to finish, but it would be worth it because you'll have something to be proud of that you built yourself. And if its your pride and joy your kids will love it too.

Wow, long time since I posted this thread originally... but unfortunately this is the direction I really do need to go in. Have prices changed much since 2012?
