quadlight wiring and oil cooler flow questions ke70, 4age

hey all couple of quick questions

im in the process of installing the oil cooler to my 20v. im using a smallport oil distribution/filter block setup. i currently have the outlet plumbed straight back to the sump so its been drivable.

now my 20v isnt running a thermostat setup, just an ewp and modified pipework to keep flow speed down. during normal driving i see coolant temps around 70-75 deg. prolly a lil low i know. but its going to be used for track aswell so im expecting those temps to come up during hard working. this is also why im wanting to fit the oil cooler

my problem is i dont want the motor runing any cooler during normal street driving.

can anyone see any issue running a manual gate valve in the oil outlet before the cooler to stop flow through the core for daily driving. then it can be opened up for use of the cooler out on the track? like will it affect the motor if oil isnt able to flow out the filter dist block outlet?


second question

about to start the wiring my quadlamp setup in
ive done a bit of searching around but the only thing i could find on the wiring of them said just splice into the highbeam feed from the standard lights and run it to the inner lamp.

my question is is this an acceptable way of wiring them or do i need to go a secondary relay switched off the highbeam feed?
will the 4 lamps on highbeam draw too much current from the original highbeam feed of only 2 lights?

any help with those is really appreciated

Sorry if this seems a little obvious cause you seem to know your stuff, but isn't a oil thermostat what your after? A thermostatic sandwich plate will keep your oil at the right temp and only use the cooler when needed?

I wired my quads up according to the rolla club FAQ and havnt had a problem.

4age oil filter sandwich plates which have the oil line fitting have an inbuilt thermostat....

yeah its the standard smallporgt sandwich plate. so ill take that as it has a thermostat. sweet. ill just plumb it up as normal. cheers

and yea ive seen that rollaclub wiring writeup. just wanted to clarify that itll be alright. ie wont burn anything out. thanks for that ill wire them as per writeup n see how she goes.

This is the sandwich plate with the steel hose fitting coming out of it at like a 45 degree angle? wont the thermostat only pass oil through that hose when it reaches temp, or does it not allow any oil to pass through the plate until it reaches temp?

I also have an oil cooler ready to be installed but I was worried about the same problems also.

The standar toyota sandwich plate is pressure actuated, not temp. I run one with good results but I have oil thermostat to install as it will work better, especially on startup when there is a spike in oil pressure resulting in oil going to the cooler when its stone cold.
