I just either measured what lengths i needed, or flattened out the old ones, went down to my local brake shop who flared the ends for me, took them home, got a bender and bent where i needed to.

Not just one shape of flare tool, you'd be lucky if it was the right one for $30.

Shape? The tool does about 6 differnt tube sizes with die's to match.
Used it a heap of times, works a perfect double flare each time.
The key is to use a pipe cutter to get a clean straight cut.

Sizes yes, but there are different shape flares you put on to suit different fittings, some are sharper/ and or flatter than others. To get them flared cost me $10, so depends how many times you want to do these things i guess. If the tool Joel found does our shape fittings, then i'd buy it so i had it there regardless of savings $20, because you never know.
