Great idea I say. Probably would need a lot of body/chassis work to keep that power on the ground, but hey, they put them in Escorts with great success. Actually my dream car atm is a RS500 Sierra, just need to finish uni and get a well paying job!
Whats your thoughts on it. It probable wont happen as I'm an impassioned person and don't want to wait 6+ months (what eva it is) for an engine from the UK.
But if was to happen would build the motor push about 300hp for street and go around 400hp for track.
Ran a R154 gear box and a diff that wont break.
And you do think I would run in to any problem doing it?
Give your views good or bad (call me a d***head if you think its stupid idea).
Cheers Matt

YB Cosworth in an 86 hmmmmmm. The engine is expensive to get hold of compared to the SR20/3SGTE, parts are expensive, airflow for airflow, an SR20 will make more power with the same amount of air flow(I know this from experience) The YB will just end up costing you more. As much as I love Cosworth stuff(my cat is called Cosworth) I really wouldn't go that way, you will buy an expensive secondhand engine that will require an expensive rebuild. There is so much crap around for the SR as well.
If you want bang for bucks how about a 13B turbo, many years ago(about 10 I think) my younger brother and I put a 13B turbo into an 86, running 10 psi boost a few mods it made 186rwkw, we took it to the drags and under bad conditions pulled off a 12.4 quarter pass, it was awesome fun to drive.
Very true they are expensive. Yeah I don't like SR not just the fact that everyone says the only good thing for is a boat anchor, if that's true why do people keep using them. But any way just want something that different that not too may people have. Yeah my next chose would be a beams but as engine conversions aren't really me strong point and the whole reason of getting my 89 was to learn more and do stuff myself
If u were going to run such a motor, you would also run a better gearbox than the r154...it has weak ratios and shifts like a truck
a 4age sounds like the PERFECT engine for you. there are plenty of reasons every second corolla you see isnt running a cosworth engine other than the 2 month wait from the UK
If you feel compelled to have that much power you should do what i did; BEAMS 3sge with toda internals with an r154 behind it. Depending on the turbo size should easily make 400hp and will probably cost a fair bit less than your proposed setup.
Spent ages weighing up the pros and cons of all engine setups, this is what i ended up going with
Why not just hunt down the atlantic 4a, that some old bloke in canberra has? 10k for a dry sumped roller throttled 240hp 4a? Yes please.
