Limited T50 Clutch Fork Movement

Hey guys,

I am currently converting my ae71 to 4age. Being a smallport, im using a 212mm flywheel, with a brand new 212 Exedy HD Clutch. Upon mating the motor to the JDM T50, I discovered the fork movement is far far far less than my other stocko 4ac ae71. If i had to guess, movement of the 4age AE71 is about 5mm, forward or back. The 4ac on is about 20-30 mm back and forth.

To further my concerns, when I tried connecting my slave, the fork is so close to the slave that the only way it'll sit properly is if it sits at an angle, rather than straight on.

I did a rough measurement for the sake of it, and from the block (basically where the box mates to the motor) to the clutch plate is 84mm.

Its as though the t50 bearing is too big for the area from the pressure plate to the end of the gearbox shaft.

So either this is normal with the hd clutch, or ive got an issue.. Any ideas guys?

Does it function. You can check this while the car isnt running just put it in gear, clutch it and have someone push it. If it moves I wouldn't be too worried. That said, id expect it to be working exactly the same as if it were a 4ac setup as its the same thing with all the same parts except the clutch disc and pressure plate. Maybe you have the wrong throwout bearing and its too large for the space.

Is the throwout bearing properly seated on its carrier? Are you using the right slave cylinder? Is the clutch disc in backwards or some random assembly issue that binds shit up and causes problems. Is it running and what happens when you try and drive it.

Some cutch disks you can run backwards On aftermarket ones on V6 prado;s we just put the clutch disc on backwards otherwise you have to take off the exhaust manifolds, don't have to with a genuine one though.

at this stage car isnt running, so restricted to what i can do.. Having said that, I dropped the gearbox, and everything seems to be corrent and fine.

I had a chat to Golberg who reakons it could just be that my 4ac has a well worn pressure plate, and this exedy one being so new hasnt had the same wear and thus wont give like the other. At this stage im going for that hah, but i did take a picture of the way the slave is sitting. Although the slaves old and shitty, its still functional until my new one arrives sometime this week.

Once it wears in it'll feel normal.

I'm running the same setup but with a adm gearbox
Same thing happened to me, drove it round and started to feel heaps better.

Same as blake for me. I was a bit worried at first but it all seemed to work fine still.
