There is a known issue with the power dip on a gze ecu... he should sort it out and then compare again

never knew that.. but doubt you can tell the difference unless you see it on a dyno? i mean i have driven his car and its basically fine..torque reminds me of a 4WD diesel turbo though, plenty of pull but torque feels like it dies out at 5000rpm which sucks..turbo should be his only option for furture power mods, just easier power gains.. anyways getting way off topic

There is some good info from Frak in this thread that supports my gut feel over the years... Really appreciate that.

Loads of people bag the 20v for lacking torque, but the handful i've owned have always not felt that way to me.. And I agree with gunner on the 6spd being a totally different car to drive vs the 5spd...

The ratio between 1st and 2nd very impressive and you get off the line pretty quick with the 6spd box, and around the track you're always in the right rev range. Shame it is a FWD box though.

yeah the gze ecus had issues with the knock sensor around 5000rpm.

You can definately feel the power dip around then because the computer retards the timing because it thinks its knocking badly.

Also, I think if you had 4.77 gears you would definately know it. >4000rpm on the freeway is a dead giveaway, its more likely you have a 4.3 seeing you have a JDM rear end dont you?

4000rpm on freeway on 5th gear im going 105-106kmph from tom tom GPS on iphone app.. my speedo cable is broken but from memory i would be close to 130-140km on the speedo at 4000rpm..which i know for sure is not even close to having a 4.3

yeah i have a JDM rear end T series..god knows what they tricked it up with before it came to Australia to be honest

Rhys, I have actually been on the look out for a 6 speed box, I haven't driven a 6 speed BT but I have worked the ratios out on paper and it has to accelerate better. I'll keep looking!

One of my students has one and he did offer me a drive, just didn't get time, might have to hit him up next time he's in.

And contrary to popular belief I don't dislike 16v 4AGE, in fact I really like them.

Matt, fyi I am running an MX5 6 speed in my AE86(my AE111 is 5 speed), was 20v NA now 20v Turbo, I'm also running 4.77 diff gears, I went with the 6 speed over a traditional 5 speed close ratio box as I wanted a firtst gear that I didn't have to slip the crap out of the clutch. The combination of MX5 6 speed, 4.77 and NA was really good, it was always 'on it', the turbo is even better, rips through the gears.

Sounds like a 4.778 final drive to me!

I have a Weir 4.778 and sit on around 4100RPM at 110kph (with 195/50/15 tyres)
