were the injectors necessary? did you find they made much of a difference? im looking at a similar setup with 288deg cams both sides but with a bit more head work, slightly OS hi comp pistons and a thinner HG. was possibly going with some valve work rather than the injector upgrade thats why im asking.

I wouldn't waste my time with a 16v, BT all the way! I dynoed a stock BT today with Motec M4 and headers, made 103rwkw. Try getting anywhere near that with a stock 16v ,Motec and headers!

I printed off a couple of runs with over lays showing vvt on all the time, vvt off all the time and vvt 3500-6000 on (best rpm band for this engine), will scan and put up.

i needed to purchase injectors when changing to the itb setup. 235cc injectors are supposed to be good for 180bhp but i wanted to be safe and i got the 3sge injectors cheap.
i was advised that your always better to have ample injectors when tuning, less strain and chance of maxing out and breaking down. car was tuned by Robbie in trackday performance in ireland.

someone correct me if I am wrong but doens't a bog stock silvertop make 180hp with a good exhaust, tune and intake?

I had had someone who had a modded 16v with cams and he said my silvertop was still quicker in the top and has lots more mid range punch

Interesting, I've had a lot of people say not to bother upgrading the injectors unless your going turbo or making close to the max power of an NA 4age's capabilities. I've been giving some thought to this area as I'm unsure about what to do with it in regards to my own build: upgrading injectors and/or slightly over sized valves as well as how much of the valve train is worth changing (seals go without say) I WON'T be converting to an inner shim kit and will be running 8.5mm lift. Most people have said not to upgrade the injectors and in the valve train just replace seals and put in uprated springs, making sure its well built with light head work, port matching and valve lapping as this will be more than enough for up to 200HP.

PS. Spoke to a mechanic here. He's had lots of experience with 86's and built many 4age's, fair few clubman spec 4age's too (owns one himself). He said go for the 16v definitely...he didn't go into great detail but basically he was saying a built 16v will make decent power if built right, will rev out nicely and have more torque. A lot of the clubman guys opt for the 20v because in those light cars the torque is less of a factor so it suits their application perfectly.

that was his response to me asking if i should build a 16v or a 20v with an aim of 180hp+, solid build with a nice torque and rev range. Even the word reliable was dropping but that's probably wishful thinking

    Good result there...

You can get good results out of 16v, but from my experience it is much easier to get the same/better out of a 20v.

I'm happy to organise a dyno day or 1/4 mile run if people want to compare results?
