*E7* actually has a very good suggestion there... rather than outright racing, which always has the fear of car on car contact... make it a time attack style contest.

Pick three or four or five of the Group 5 Sprint series, or even use the three or four rounds of the Victorian Sprint Championship, and bloke with the fastest time wins.

Without a defined set of regs, the bloke with the most cash will probably win, because he can bolt the best tyres, shocks, engine etc into the car and romp away with it. However I can guarantee you will all have a heap of fun out on the track regardless, because flat out in your car is flat out, and nothing beats that.

Or you could get a bit more serious and say that cars must be eligible for the 0-1600cc modified class. There is still a fair bit of scope for mods in there, but at least means that someone with a 4agte isn't going to come and blow the doors of a bloke running a stock 4age.

is there already a fastest lap thread for victorian racetracks?

anyone interested should start one and maybe have categories in up to 1600cc NA, up to 1600cc boosted, and unlimited?

that way even if you're not door to door, you can still see what times other people are running?

I like this idea, if someone who has the time to keep it updated starts a thread in the motorsport section I can make it a sticky

Creating a class is a lot of work. It has to be presented to cams, rules written, submitted, a club formed, technical officers etc.

Id just run in all the sprints, track days and hill climbs that are around atm. Looks on Cams or check out PIARC, TCCV, AROCA, WRX club, Marque sports, Ballarat light car etc. Events like the Winton 8 hour, John Mont at Sandown, Huanted hills.

There is so much motorsport on its not funny.

Once you have a well sound car, $$$ and time then consider state serise in Improved production or Under 2ltr sport sedans. But the next step is not cheap and some times the fun away from grass roots.
