    You're right John, all TTA's engines in the 86's were bigport with the 40mm crank and they made supposedly around 230hp (realistically more like 195-200) and revved to 8700 for 6 hours straight. If you're punching pistons through the block on an N/A 4A you're having an issue rather than basic block strength. Only issues with bigports is the oil pump which is easily swapped and in standard form the cranks have a vibration issue at around 8300-8500 which causes them to flex and fail, again easily fixed with the proper preparation.

    Also was expecting everyone to say I'm an idiot and use a smallport cause everyone else does so it must be better, so thanks for making my day with positivity guys haha.

    Ran into some more issues, I'm having trouble finding good enough bearings to suit the 40mm big ends so I've picked up a small port bottom end to use the crank and block as my 3-rib block has some corrosion I would need to weld up. I'm aiming for a budget built 16v bigport comparable to a blacktop basically. Specs will be something like this;

    Hypereutectic 81.5mm/82mm bore pistons with a small dome top
    Balanced, knife edged and undercut 42mm crank with King or ACL bearings
    BC Econorods or similar, might even balance the standard ones depending on costs
    Flow bench developed 16V bigport head
    292 degree total duration cams I've had ground

    I'm also toying with the idea of making my own inlet manifold and milling the standard throttle body to a bigger internal diameter, and running a small amount of nitrous if/when I buy a haltech/link for this.
    I will also go through all the oil galleries and do a big clean-up with the die grinder. Hoping to have it all in and running by August/September.

    Doesn't sound like a budget build. It's more than the average joe spends on a 16v. How much are you projecting?

    Hey...good read mate.

    Will be great to see the progress of your new engine through the build. Did you have a power goal in mind for how far your going with the head?

    I am doing pretty much everything myself and I work in parts, so all up it should cost me less $3k. I'm aiming for 160hp at the flywheel, and we've based the ports off a TRD group A head my dad did a lot of development work on and gone from there. Got a set of near new Carrillo TRD con rods in the post today also

    I haven't done anything to this yet, work is sucking all my time. But I've been collecting more parts and all that's left before I start assembling the engine is getting the block decked and bore to 82mm, and waiting on my crank to come back from being crack tested, lightened and nitrided. I've finally finished the cylinder head also, but I don't have any decent photo's of that yet.

    Also got a steel flywheel from SC in Ireland to go with my puck type clutch as the current gearbox is on the way out.

    When it comes time to assemble it all I'll be putting up a how to for anyone interested in building their own engines.

    Thanks Jarrad, I always used to love seeing your yellow KE70 at Clarkey's when I worked next door at Nissan. I'm always cruising around somewhere haha.
