top half or bottom half???? (get a long screw driver or pry bar push against block around the area of mains, bigends etcetc and put your ear against the handle of the screwdriver/pry bar, good way of hearing things at exact points)

i has was out drifting the other night and my 4agte has developed a fairly fast paced tapping noise, this noise didnt appear till i was puuling up to a stop.the car still runs perfect makes boost,good oil pressure, exhurst note sounds the same,ect nothings was changed
my first thought was the valves, but my timing is spot on. and im unsure how the lifers and that work cause i thought that mabey one of the may have sezed
i havnt pulled it down to have a look as of yet i just wonted to see if anyone has had/herd of this befor to point out the things i need to look for
any help/advice would be great as im still going through the learning stage

its deffently a head noise just noticed that its only makin the noise when reving it and sometimes on iddle its not reall consistent so has made me wonder if there is something under the tappet cover ill pull them off in the next couple of days and have a look,
dose this sound possible of just wishful thinking,

have a look in the technical articles thread/s there is a 4a manual you can download check clearances while your there
4AG's have no lifters. The cam pushes directly on the bucket and valve. So it's all very simple. Pulling the cam covers off and checking valve clearance would take approx 15 minutes.
