Yeah was going to say back flush the radiator
Clutch fun works best with shroud!!

Could be just your gauge playing up to?

If it's driveable just get a water temp gauge and get a temp reading..
    dose

okay so i thought its time to bump this up,

installed a water temp gauge, and yes its still doing the hot/cold thing.

rice you mentioned a operating temp of 70oC, well in my case, its will rising to about 200degrees Fahrenheit at its hottest, so like 93 degrees.

its important to stress im running the factory 4ac clutch fan which sits apprix 70mm from the radiator.

where do you guys recommend from here?

    yeah tailshafts back in.

ive got running as i write, burping the system. Once it warmed up, it rose to just before 200oF, so approx 92 degress. After about ten or so minutes its now come down to sit at 190oF, so 88oC odd degrees. It's been sitting like this for about 20 minutes now. So not overheating, but indeed running hot.

and sorry for the newbie question, but should radiator level water etc rise or burp when you give it some throttle?

yea its pressure from the pump spinning harder/faster

i wouldnt say thats hot, especially with the cap off(not pressuresed) and its idling with a fan that has no shroud at all, once it has no bubbles and both top and bottom hose are as hot as each other(thermast is open, and it is flowing) put the cap on and take it for a drive, it will probs drop

interestingly with the cap on, it hung around that 190 degree F so 88 odd oC area.

had old mate neighbour come down who used to be a mechanic, suspects a slight headgasket leak. The car blows a bit of white smoke, and some fluid was coming out aswell. As well as that, at the radiator outlet the motor was starting to bubble to the point of a foam.

hey guys, thought id update this.

Was able to get a comp test done with Golberg, came out low in the last cylinder (130 or so). So figured its the head gasket.

Ordered a TRD one from SamQ, new head bolts and gaskets from toyota, and in the mean time removed the head today.

i grabbed some quick photos, but there pretty shit. I dont really know what im looking at, never been this far into a motor before. Also, the coolant in the first chamber is spillage from the head. Everything looks the same. You can see the middle coolant passage the coolants an off green colour.
