Default What calipers are these ?

Can any one identify the calliper in the photos? IT CAME a t-series rear end . It was supposed to be a JDM unit. But upon inspection it appearS to be moded T-18 t-series drum housing & axles (24mm)., 4.1 c/p with a Kaaz LSD . Has JDM AE86 rear discs and handbrake cables , but calliper mounts have been re- drilled and calliper is not JDM rear off a AE86.

Are they Corona ? And so which model ?

They could be early AE86 rear calipers, there are two types, early and late calipers. Early have the sliding plates like these whilst the later ones have pins that the caliper slides on...if that makes sense.

If they where early AE86 caliper , then they would not have had to re-drill mounting plates , same would apply to te71 or te72 ? So I am thinking that they are off something else. Maybe ?????

The way they use metal wedges and not tubular chrome slides, they look like the early ra40 calipers from the rare disc brake models, or failing that the te71 disc rear end that came out from 79 or so. I actually use the TA40/RA40 calipers and they bolt to my jdm disc diff brackets and require a 1mm spacer to not scrape on the disc (if I used the ra40 discs I would not have this issue and need spacers. I dont know why someone would redrill them unless they had the wrong bracket to begin with.

The give aways that these are the te/ra/ta caliper is the rubber cap on the inboard edge, the wedge shaped sliders and the paper clip looking retainers for them, they use the same pad as ae86 disc rear. Its just the earlier version of the ae86 caliper, and I actually prefer it as its more easily serviceable. The chrome slides are always worn out on jdm ae86 calipers. You dont have that problem on these so much, and you just have to replace the metal wedges if they get play. I cant comment on whether they came on ae86 or not, as Ive only ever had the ones with tubular sliders come from ae86 in my experience. The only thing to me that looks out of place is the dust cover on the outer side, mine dont have that.

I dont think the brackets on your diff housing are the jdm ones if they dont fit this caliper, and come to think of it, if you have a t18 diff its a drum housing that should have a rectangular brake bracket bolt pattern instead of the oblong one from the AE/TE/TA type diff. So if they have redrilled the calliper mount at the diff, then you have most likely what i described. If you have the bracket redrilled at the caliper mount area, then you most likely have some random bracket that I cannot id.

    Thanks for the info ---
The calipers bolt staight up to the bracket , It is the 4 mounting holes to the diff housing that have been redrilled (holes with RED circles ), refer to photo . There are no spacers at all . As You can see new holes are not as wide apart and allow the caliper to sit in line with the diff , original holes angled the caliper up or down with regard to the diff. Also when I 1st looked at the pads in the caliper they appeared a bit different to normal pads in late model AE86 rear calipers , but I tried them and they will fit.

You never know till you try things AH! Orderd a set of road pads for sons rear late model rear AE86 calipers the other day and when the arrived they marked as Mitsubishi Galant /Lancer. They fitted and worked perfect and only cost $49 for a set of 4.

Yes well then you have TA40/Ra40/te71 disc brake setup adapted to the t18 diff by redrilling the caliper bracket. If you redo the brakes with ae86 rotors one day you may need to slip in a spacer between the bracket and the caliper. I like the outer covers, mine dont have those, and they look rally spec. Me likey.
