Hey everyone,
I'm from WA and this is my build thread for the AE71 I just bought a few weeks ago.
Got it off a friend as a swap plus cash for my S13.
Long story short, I hated the 13. I blew up gearboxes and a motor, basically gave up and he always wanted another silly since he sold his 180. Seemed like a good fit as I wanted something cheap and relatively reliable.
When he acquired the AE, it looked like so
He then mucked around with it for a bit and it ended up here..
Looking at it now, there were clearly some changes I wanted to make (stickerbombed bumpers?)
Took it for a drive and loved the noise. Pretty much made up my mind that I wanted it then and there.
We settled on a deal for my silly and all the parts I had for it.
A month later and it now looks like this
Ended up putting the rear bumper back on though and getting some auto blades/venetians for that cool 80s look.
Engine.. (very dirty )
Mate owns a fairly slammed E30 and found a boot lip lying around in his garage so we chucked it on the AE for a test fit.
Bought him some Nandos as a repayment as I like the look of it
Just begging for some decent offset wheels though..
Also, got the cannon removed today and a magnaflow rear muffler installed. Bit quieter, less drone and I like the look compared to the cannon.
Will probably do the rest of the exhaust (extractors, etc.) later on down the track. May also have a slight exhaust leak just after the headers
Mods:
Bigport bluetop 4AGE
T50 gearbox
Cut springs in the front, falcon rears
Stock shocks in the front, something in the rear?
VL fuel pump
Low pressure lift pump
1L surge tank in boot
S/Steel straight through exhaust
Solex locks
Deck and rear speakers
Plans are:
Wheels (14s or 15s x 8 with low offset)
Clean up the paint where my mate got lazy
Decent diff
New suspension (GT monroes and king springs on the way, will go coilover setup later)
Dark interior
Get rid of the cannon - tick
Probably remove most of the stickers and go for a real grandpa spec look - halfway there
Comments or advice (first e7 and don't know much) appreciated
