Default What’s the difference between an r154 and r155 gearbox

Apart from the gear ratios what’s the difference between these gear boxes can they handle the same amount of power?

Exactly there heaps cheaper I’ve driven a few Hilux’s and they change gear very nicely just looking for a gearbox to put behind a beams that I can punish every day R154 seem like strong gearbox but they cost too much and they’re getting old

Might be worth the punt, given a r154 sets you back around $2500. Are the bell housings the same?

Well they still make them new at the moment... I thought a average R154 was around 1500, well I could buy about 5 R155's for 2.5k, haha. It didn't matter to me with the bellhouseing because I had to use custom one anyway with 1uz.

Plus you can get these if you really need them -

I would rather just bend the shifter back a bit though...

Ratios look better in the r155, espesally for a 1uz or so thing else with a lot of torque.

That low ratio 1st gear on the R155 looks like it'd be really annoying on any performance engine.

Is there anything wrong with using a W5x box? If they can handle the torque of an NA 1UZ I'm sure they'd be fine for a beams.

I'm using a W57 behind a 1uz in my current 2WD Hilux build, and apparently they are more then up to the job.
If you take a look at Lextreme forums, W Series are the most common box used behind 1UZ, and good for up to 300+hp set ups with mountains of torque.

    W57
    1st 3.285
    2nd 1.894
    3rd 1.275
    4th 1.
    5th 0.861

    Rev 3.768

I'll let you know how good they are in a couple of weeks, just got the engine/box and shaft mounted yesterday and have started to wire it up now.
