bolt on car put in gear, wet sand is the easiest way I have done it.
i picked up a 2nd pair of mk 3's to make a complete set ,but they show their age,i need to remove the clear coat on the outer dish to be able to polish it,would paint stripper be ok to do this with?will it damage the alloy?,then sand smooth, then polish till desired finish,i tryed rubbing back the clear for awhile today but it barely came off.i was thinking of using stripper as i want to use it on the centres anyway.

I did what Jake said but used a file to clean the lips up.
This is best bet to remove the clear, you put in almost no effort and you get the clear off evenly. Plus the finer you go will make them easier to polish
you can get into all the areas on the dish?they arent flat, they are stepped, yer i wet sanded yesterday and did sweet fuck all,ill give it a shot in gear
what grit sand paper are you using?
800 grit to start, its already an over kill and will eat a lot off to be honest lol
1000-2000+ grit before cutting and polishing
ive never done it before but this is what everyone always say online LOL... 800 will eat a lot out of the clear though that i know for sure
dose
haha, well i tryed having them on the car ,in gear, started with 800 wet sanding,to be honest its not as effective as i thought, maybe these wheels have more clear than normally would?half way through i sliced the fuck outa my finger on a tiny but of rash on the lip of rim haha called it quits, can i coat the dish in paint stripper to remove clear, sand after that, then polish, will paint stripper mark or damage the alloy?fuck restoring wheels sucks haha
I'm surprised it didn't work. I did my barrels by hand off the car and only evened the clear coat so it wasn't too bad. I used a blue abrasive drill bit on the centres, it took all the paint of and hardly marked them and I had no problems polishing.
