I like the look of that as well!
I couldn't even see what was wrong with it till I looked at the close ups.

Have you nutted out a rough cost yet?

    Very keen pending price.
Although I probably won't be able to give you any business for a little while.

having another crack at this on the weekend, think i worked out the issues and how to get around them.
price will be on a per job basis, between $250-$300 depending on how shagged your dash is.if you want to do your dash prep then i could be able to drop more off the price but i cant be held accountable for any imperfections that come up afterwards due to your work. i also like trading labor for parts/services as most of you know
material cost is over $100 + labor/glue etc.i've had the dash i did sitting outside in all types of weather and its still good, no signs of it coming off etc.

    Hey,
Did you end up doing another of these?

When I finally arrange to catch up I'll probably give you mine to do.. it only has 1 crack though so really need to know it's gonna look better after getting done y'know.

    Cheers.

The colour looks good. Have you considered using a product with some thin backing like a thin foam to help with the lumpy glue.

Also, you could get contact spraying a lot finer than that if you drop the air and fan back a bit, get it a bit finer off the gun. Are you using rattle can glue or the real deal from your own spray gun where you can control it?

I spray a fair bit of it at work when laminating and you can have the same kinds of problems with defects showing through on benches and panels if your not careful. Also using a roller or something to smooth it before its completely set is helpful.

Looks very good. I was going to pay you to do it, but it looks kinda fun to do so I might fill and cover my own just to see how it goes. I could always send it to you if I fail.

lol, thats why i put the guide up. to help out people that are either willing to learn and have a go or just cant afford to get others to do it.
i worked out the issue with the lumps, they only formed because i had layed down the vinyl then lifted it to lay it back down again, i found it to be really hard to get in in one go with only myself holding up the material with glue already on it. i've worked out how i'll attack it next time round. i'll be starting with the cluster section and getting that done first, then apply to other parts in 3 sections.
i use a proper glue gun too, i know what you are talking about with spray adhesives on laminates, i used to do alot of cabinetry aswell which involved adhering veneers with contact adhesive.
i think a *e7* would be easy to do aswell, i'll have to grab one off dave next time i see him and have a go.
the dash does look really nice in person

Yes you can have some fun with it. I did my A pillar trims with matching beige vinyl from spotlight. They were white plastic, and getting a bit faded from the sun. Looks good and gives a softer feel to it. I didnt use anything with a soft backing either.
