    Default dash pads

I think im onto a new way of re skinning dash pads. i've found a new type of thin vinyl that is really elastic that should be able to re skin a dash without the need for a vacuum vinyl machine like the dash doctor uses.
benefits of this would be less cost to you and air vents/cluster surrounds would fit properly with the very thin material i plan to use.
i'm going to try it out with a spare cracked dash pad i have laying around within the next couple of weeks. i'll take photo's of the step by step of prepping up the dash for covering so that if you guys want to do most of the prep the cost will come down more too.
the vinyl only comes in matt black but that could most likely be sprayed to suit the color of your choice if needed.
    i'll keep you posted

cant price it up until i work out how much material to use and time spent getting it right. and the material cost is just under $100 pr meter but also has to be shipped from europe.
give me a couple of days.

apologies for the delay, got round to doing one today with results im not to happy with, still not too bad for a first go though.
next one will turn out better, good thing is you can just rip off the vinyl and it takes away the contact adhesive .
here is a step by step of dash prepping.
first off this was the donor dash pad, came from a jdm halfcut and had some pretty bad cracks and indents. a hole was also drilled into it for a gauge or gps. some cool dealership stickers on the dash could not be saved.

next step grab some 120 grit sand paper and a sanding block and knock back the edges of the cracks until its flat.

then start filling in the cracks with bog, use a spring steel applicator when doing this as you can really press in the filler to the cracks and end up with a smoother surface, like bodywork the less you use the less you have to sand back.

at this point if your doing this on the cheap you could just get a can of bumper black or anything else with texture and re spray your dash, especially if your cracks are thin you you needed minimal filler you could use some vinyl dye suff.
mask up edges you dont want to spray over and wipe down with prepsol and a rag.

this is where i stuffed up, i think i used too much contact adhesive and it left a lumpy texture under the vinyl under some spots.
spray both surfaces with the adhesive.

couldnt get pics on the part where i started to stretch/fit the vinyl but here is how it turned out

    not happy with this bit

and this bit was the worst part, its going to be tricky trying to get this curve right, vinyl has to stretch heaps and then come back on itself.
not sure if its going to be possible but i'll keep trying
