    Default Official BHBO Meets

Welcome to the Brisbane Help a Brother Out Meet thread.

What are BHBO Meets? It's a chance to socialise with people who share the same passion, build some great friendships, pick up some new skills and get progress going on more builds so more of us can cruise. This is done by people coming together to help one another out with their car builds.

    What's important?

Attitude. This is more of a community spirit thing and not aimed at money makers or lazy people who don't like getting their hands dirty. While nobody expects anyone who volunteers to help out to be out of pocket financially in any way it's really not open to people who are there to pimp their products or cash in on their skills. And for those who ask for help, see it as assistance, not an Ultratune service centre.
Punctuality. Communicate with people. If you tell someone you'll meet them at 8am but you can't make it or you'll be late, tell them. We all have busy lives and things don't always go to plan but that's no excuse for not being bothered to send a text or call someone. It's all common sense. If you don't like being dicked around, don't dick others around and respect other people's property.

    What's not important?

Skills. You don't have to be gifted with a spanner and it doesn't have to be your car you're asking for help with. It could be tips on photography, computer programs, or maybe just offering a place for people to work on their cars, anything really. But this is a car forum so it's safe to expect it to be car related.

A community is nothing without its people. It's not compulsory to participate and we're not really interested in negativity. This is a place of action and offers of help are expected to be genuine. No job is too small, either. What might seem mundane and simple to one person might be interesting to another so put it out there and see what happens.

    Things to consider:

When asking or offering it's a good idea to mention things like:

Subject: Start the post with what needs doing, what you want to do or can provide. It might not even be specific. For example: I'll be serving my car this weekend and have plenty of space, if someone wants to give their car an oil change as well, they're welcome to come over.

    Location:

    Time:

    Items available or needed:

    Contact:

    Special requirements:

In order for BHBO to work we need participation, not from everyone all of the time but some of us most of the time. So let's get started!

Yeah I've already got one side done still have to do the other, still have to finish welding the inner guard to the outer as well on the left guard so ill post up here when I'm doing the other side.

Also if anyone on northside needs a hand with something can come round, have a few tools, enough to do an oil + filter change in 10 minutes at least haha.

Or if anyone on the northside needs a hand with anything mechanical I can come round with some tools, don't bother asking me anything electrical I'm hopeless haha. And colour blind as well, haha.

Maybe if ppl put a list of there skills up so we know who to ask to come along?

im a panel beater by trade. So can do body work, relativity mechanically minded. Can do most things or nut out how to do things. Can do wiring to a point. Wired a few cars now including my pano. (Yes I had help for this one, but was only a phone call) can weld some things but welder is rooted atm. Always keen to give a hand if a brother is in need

I am qualified mechanic, pretty average at body work but can do it, haha. Colour blind so rules out any wiring other than basic stuff, but I can understand how it works just can't physically wire it properly, haha. I can weld looks good when I get rid of the paint on it, haha, welded a few diffs, rear wheel arches, and diff mounts anything thick is easy, spot welded the majority of my car. I have a heap of tools at home and other specialized tools at work.

Well done guys. This is awesome! We have some greatly skilled people here and it's great to see the enthusiasm. I'm pumped!

Unfortunately, my enthusiasm outweighs my skill sets but here goes:

Started life out as an airbrush artist, went on to get a BA in design so I can help with illustrations, design concepts, logos, that sort of thing. Have studied studio lighting and worked as a photojournalist, too so pretty handy with a camera. I've been getting into Autodesk Inventor a bit in my free time but the tutorials suck balls so if anybody wants to give me a quick rundown on the program that would be cool. I'm keen to design parts for myself and others. I've had a fair bit of experience doing prep work for painting cars but I'm only average with a spray gun. My electrical skills reach as far as fitting stereos and central locking kits. I'm good at handing people spanners but always seem to do things the long way when I'm turning them myself. Got a few tools, just basic stuff and plenty of space with cool neighbours so working to midnight at my place isn't a problem.
I'm hoping to splash out next year sometime on some useful tools and a decent man cave for getting some real work done so if nothing else, I should be able to provide a good work space. I'll tell you when that happens.
I also have a parts van. A really dodgy Kia Pregio (future mods planned). Handy for those parts that just won't fit in a normal car.

Hey Brett, whenever you're keen to belt some metal I'd love to come and help out. I've always wanted to learn some tips on how to panel beat. I'm keen to see how your Pano is going, too.

Johl, swing around sometime when you're back out this way if you want. I'm on Finucane Road. There's always something cold to drink in the fridge. That invite extends to all of you guys. We're coming into good fish 'n' chip weather, too and I know of a great place in Cleveland.
