Reply With Quoteif you take it to a lock smith they can repin the ignition barrel to suit your key... Get a new one if you can as the old ones wear out and stop working properly. Plus it is a defect if you can remove the key whilst it is not in the lock position.

Well someone tried to steal my car and mangled the drivers side door lock and the ignition barrel. I want to know if i have to get a barrel and doorl ock from a diff car thus leaving me with 2 sets of keys (passenger and boot) or if i can get my current key made to fit. I got no idea, never had a car broken into before.

Best bet would be to get a new barrel.
Yes. Defectable indeed. Mate of mine had a car you could start with a screwdriver and then proceed to pull it out of the ignition barrel and continue driving.
you can buy new barrels and door locks from ebay, i got some for $130
