Default Head lights won't turn off!!??

Ok this has me baffled, I've been fiddling around for hours and can't seem to find a fix

After my 4age into ke70 conversion my headlights won't turn off regardless of where the switch is. As soon as I connect the battery the lights come on. I'm pretty sure I never touched any of the headlight wiring. Has anyone had this problem? And sudgwstiobs of what I can try..

    thanks

There is a relay that controls them, maybe its stuck on.

Mine done it last week. Slowly the headlights would turn on. And a buzzing from the relay. I change the relay and it fixes the problem. Might help you to change it and go from there.

The relay could theoretically click and still be broken and stuck closed.

Logically Im thinking relay as it will have a full time 12v source or you wouldn't be able to use the lights when the car is off.

The relay simply waits for a control circuit to close and then gives its target access to 12v constant from the battery. It could potentially fail and stay on all the time, its just as likely as if it were dead all the time. Logically its hard to look past that problem, as its the relay that controls it. Next step would be the other control equipment, maybe the headlamp switch on the stalk is stuck on, but I feel its less likely, they tend to wear and to tend not to turn on when dirty or loose.

So go get the same type of relay from the wreckers and swap it out. The headlight relay will be located in the fuse box next to the battery on an ae71 or ke70. its a different type of relay than what you would buy as an aftermarket relay, a circular silver metal one. Most any corolla up to the 90s would use the same headlight relay. If you cant find one I have a few, I'm sure I could send one if you want it. I believe the relay is inverted in its operation to a normal relay.

I changed them around with one I'm sure works and also swapped the around with the ones in the drivers kick panel, still no luck!

On the ae71 the head light relay is in the engine bay and is the one in the middle next to the starter which is just a 4 pin plug with 2 wires connected.

Take it out and see if the headlights turn off
