    Matt, it might still probably warp a little even if clamped tightly, depending how hot and quick you weld, and the jig setup youre using.

    Just a FYI for the backyard welders;

    When doing a fillet weld, like flanges onto a diff housing, the penetration should be into both bits of material and not through them. For these types of weld, especially on thicker materials full material penetration isnt needed, or even possible most times.
    A fillet weld is based on the throat thickness and leg length of the weld. Penetration into both materials is needed, but a decent convex bead with a throat depth at least the same as the material thickness is what youre aiming for.

    If you preset and then clamp the diff, you could weld it without bending it.
    Also if you know how to use an oxy and apply heat in the right areas, you can easily avoid bending it.

    Wow thanks guys I was just about to put in a R31 diff in my CA18det sprinter as I have brought a complete T18 diff to rape an now I don't know what to do. Lol

    Well I brought the R31 thinking it was the right choice because they are easy to find parts for. I'm sick of looking for tooth pick T series lol
