Alternative 4age Clutch Fan Center.

Hey guys,

Following some overheating issues, I want to change the clutch fan center to rule it out as a cause. With the possibility of finding another one from a 4ac low, I was just wondering if there are any alternative fans I can take off other cars from the local wreckers? Toyota or not toyota, keen to try another one.

not sure if any other OEM things will work...but thermofans would be a better everything except for the wallet being easy $100 per thermofan unless you know people for hookups

Thermo fan is your best bet... They aren't hard to wire up either

i dont doubt that, but if the motor overheats with the factory setup (i.e Shroud, Radiator, Clutch Fan, Water pump etc) and it isnt the fan, i fell like im really just hiding the problem, rather than solving it?

It shouldn't overheat unless there is an issue with the cooling system

clutch fans move alot more air then most thermo's EVER will, you can buy new centres from any good parts store, they may even recomend a kit, you drill the hub poor the fluid out, fill it with the new fluid provided in the kit, then you put a plug in it

i know Falcon thermo fans work well on dirty nissans, but there rads are a bit wider, but AU thermo fans work AWESOME!!!!!!! you throw a empty bottle of coke in front of my mates car it sucks it into intercooler

im a fan of electric fan's, i think they're fine.

i run 2 12'' cheap fans an it kept a steady temp on 40 degree heat on the track.
magic is in the shroud design.

well heres the thing,

im running a Smallport 4age.
-RWD Toyota Water Pump
-Clutch Fan (A closer look i suspect the centers retrofitted, not the original 4ac)
-Have a choice of original ke70 radiator, or bigger, ae86 one
-Standard shroud
-3 choices of thermostat

Motors also had the head recoed and tested, and a TRD headgasket installed.

Motor appears to run hot, idles okay, then rises and falls depending whether the motors on load or not.

Its doing my head in. Ill get the motor back in, and get a video of the way the gauge dances all over the place.

whats it doing at high speeds?
fans do next to nothing above 80km/h.

thermostats only control the engine from running too cold. wont cause it to overheat (unless its broken of corse)

yeah it hasnt been right since I installed the motor.

Generally it idles fine, then as you drive it, it'll gradually heat up. I should be more specific, at this stage, it Doesnt overheat, just runs hot.

If you give it a bootful, the temp gauge dial drops real quickly. Then ease off, and it rises again. Issue now is I've just rebuilt the motor, and so now to break in the motor, its gotta be driven hot.

Once its back in, ill get a video of the gauge. Old boy thinks its a guage thing, that the temp cant rise and fall that quickly, but its done similar things on both the factory one and an aftermarket one.
