question re. cars still under warranty, do pads/disks void warranty?
This is something that can be toyed with, with any aspect when maintaining the car. The question always arises, is it cheaper/better to go factory? OR Should I use aftermarket parts? Earlier in the week we got to work to try and answer these questions for ourselves.
The car at hand was a 2008 Mazda 3 MPS, the owner need to change brake rotors, pads and fluids. After receiving a quote for parts and installation from Mazda at $1989.24 (see break down below), we crunched the numbers and purchased a set F+R DBA Replacement Rotors ($580.00), F+R Bendix Brake Pads ($215.00) and Bendix Brake Fluid ($20.00).
We have all the ingredients ready, so work started. We got car up on jack stands and first took apart the Brake System. Dismounting the calipers, removing the old brake pads and brake rotors. From there a quick clean to all parts, using the Bendix Brake Cleaner / Degreaser we had purchased.
Clean, prepped and ready for the new aftermarkets rotors and pads to be installed. On go the DBA Brake Rotors, followed by installation of the Calipers and the new Bendix Brake pads. Now to bleed the brakes, a quick double check all nuts and bolts are tight and on go the wheels!
After spending about 2.5hours from start to finish, and saving $XXX we’re confident to say DIY Brake Servicing is the way to go!

Brake pads aren't under warranty. But would be no different from using non genuine oil in a car, they will still warrant the engine if the correct oil is used, same with anything really.
Although I like to use genuine stuff where affordable, but will be getting aftermarket rotors for my landcruiser when I do my pads because genuine are as said too dear, but genuine pads are cheap so I will still be using them.

I like using genuine parts they always just work! as for brake pads, depends what I'm doing but my daily has just clocked 140,000km on the original Toyota Japan brake pads and the other day whilst servicing it and looking at how much is left on the pads, I'm quite confident they will see ATLEAST 200,000km. BTW I do 95% city driving.
Not knocking Bendix but I remember many years ago quite a debarcle with Bendix "performax" pads!
Have used after market brake pads for years , never a problem... bendix offer are good bang for buck pad / rotar. That issue frak was many many years ago now...

Yeah Matt for sure and I do use Bendix, but remember I'm old I remember everything back in the day! Infact bang for buck, Ultimates are great. But I must say I'm impressed with the OEM Toyota pads, I've done few track days, they stop well, good on rotors and bloody hell are lasting like nothing I've ever had before, when they wear out I'll be in at Toyota to get another set.
Wow that's a great effort! most cars we get in at toyota pads last about 40,000 give or take 30,000, had one hiace go metal on metal in about 10,000 but that was because the driver was shitty because the company that he works for gave him a auto petrol van and he wanted diesel manual van, haha.

Depends from Make to Make, some makes will happily keep the warrenty; whilst others will not. If this is something that worries you, best to ask your local dealer/workshop before starting work.
