4AGE in KE70 Fuel pump question
Car - KE70 4AGE 16V
motor / part in question - in tank fuel pump
problem - maybe not working?????
occurs/started when - recently
Ok so i think my in tank pump has busted as my surge tank is not filling and my external VL fuel pump is sucking dry just making alot of noise. anyone know if i can run a VL pump in the tank aswell as a replacement?
Also what are the best ways to check if the in tank pump are working?
Just another note, my surge tank and VL external pump are located on the right hand chassis rail in the engine bay should these be in the rear of the car closer to the tank?
Just put 12v directly to the lift pump, if it does nothing its broken.
I don't fully understand what your saying. Something about to intank pumps..
But just replace the lifter in the tank.
VL intank lift pump part number is Goss GE015
I reckon your surge tank and main pump are way to far away and would be stressing the intank unit.
I would be putting it at the back of the car. The is room at the rear under the car for a 1lt or smaller surge tank and pump.
cheers for that by intank pump i meant lift pump lol im really bad with car electrics but i have a battery in the boot could i just run a wire from the positive terminal directly to the in tank pump to check if it works?

There is one bolt holding each strap in.
And there is 3 screws in the filler holding the intake up.
You just have to pull the rubber cover out.
Its a pretty easy job. Just get a mate to help you out as its not fun doing it on your own.
come to think of it does the KE70 even have a standard intake pump? would it be possible to run one externally as close as possible to the bottom of the tank?
No! Do not do this.
If it sparks when you make the electrical connection you will likely blow your face off. At least remove the in-tank pump from the car, try and get all the fuel out of it, and then hook it up to your battery. I've seen people pull in-tank pumps straight out of a fuel tank and then hook it up to power directly over the open fuel tank, it's seriously retarded.
Also, KE70s do not use an in-tank pump, they have a mechanical pump that mounts on to the engine.
And you can run an external lift pump if you want, but they can be noisy. Yes, your surge tank is in a weird location, it will probably work fine but it may not be legal to have the tank mounted in the engine bay. If it were my car I would get an under-car surge tank or move your existing one to the boot.

Nah the 4k uses a mechanical pump.
Yeah you can use a facet type lift pump that sucks fuel up, but they are noisy and I think they suck.
All other fuel pumps don't like "sucking" fuel and will have problems doing it.
You would hope so, but when I've seen people do it it wasn't because they were too dumb to understand the consequences, it was because they were concentrating too much on finding the problem to stop and think about what they were doing.
