Default Cali build. Chapter 11 Style

Figured I might as well put my build as I am always on this site checking others build threads. I am in the usa about 20 min south of san francisco. A good friend of mine gave me the 86 after he started the build and got in a little over his head. Mainly he was trying to become a fire fighter and as working crazy hours with school. The car sat as a bare shell for probably about 7 years before he decided to give it to me. SO like an idiot I thought it would be so much fun to take something like this on. I was right about the fun part but ended up spending way more than I wanted to and had a few good fights with the finance minister (aka Wife). The goal with car is to have a very fast reliable car that can do a little bit of drifting and be legally driven on the streets. As the car sits right now it has a 4age but soon with in the next 6 months I hope to have the f22 in it. I really hope to make the car capable of low 2 min lap time at thunder hill raceway while being able to drive it to the track and not having to worry about the police giving me a hard time for the motor swap. As you will see form the pics I tried to do as much a s I possibly could in my garage it was a great learning experience but taught me some things are better left to the professionals. Onto the details
    1987 corolla GT-S
    stitch welded and roll bar
    4age soon to be f22
    T-50
    greddy type-s coilovers
    battle version arms everywhere
    tanabe sway bars
    t-3 rcas
    custom bumpsteer kit
    rx-7 front calipers
    kaaz 2 way diff
    4.8 r&p
    extended studs all around
    stainless steel lines all around
    volk te-37v 15x8 0 offset
koyo rad with setrab electric fans
    setrab oil cooler setup
pc-680 battery located behind pass seat

The day I picked up the car. I had to buy suspension and the likes just so I could get it on the trailer.

    looking hard

Started by cutting out most of the cage

My do enthralled by the work going on

Me mate showing me ho much he cares

The car was left outside in primer for at least 5 years so it all had to come off. Applied stripper to the whole chassis.

As you can see again my dog is totally into the process.

Trying to figure out a way to rectify the horrible wide arches my buddy welded ont the car.

The arches didnt even line up to the bumper??

So after tons of work and redoing the arches like 6 times I finally came to a point of being okay with them. Mind you I pretty much learned how to weld and do body work on this car with a ton of help from my good friend.

A pile of Interior pieces I bought to complete the car

Primed Shell and a few body parts. Learning on all the panels as I go.

    Frickin mess of a garage.

Then got back to working on he cage.

    Painted the cage

A random pile of sh!t my friend gave me from his hoarding of corolla parts.

Sanded, prepped and painted engine bay/interior

    The next day.

More body work. Painting a car is not so much a fun.

Painted hood and hatch insides. Just so I could start getting a feeling for the gun.

Painted hood exterior. Tons of orange peel but was able to color sand most of it out. No runs though.

    Battle version traction brackets.

More body work. My dog left me.

Garage flooded during painting of doors??%$!

Feeling a little crazy at this point.

    Guide coating the shell.

    Getting closer

Working on rolling fenders. Hoping to fit 225 all around

    Cleaning up engine harness.

Wondering what the hell I got my self into. lol The car came with a cut and unfinished harness that I had to figure out what the F was what.

Shell essentially ready to go for paint. Notice the triangle braces from the firewall

Cleaning the engine tranny and related parts.

Shell finally painted. Honda Championship White. Came out real nice for my first time painting a car.

Then started working on under carriage. Making sure to red oxide prime for rust and seal up the bottom as necessary. Did this underneath the whole car.

    Slew of random AE86 parts

Started painting tid bits to put back together.

Found the location that I wanted to put the fuse box

Bought some new light and such.

    Once again hard at work.

BV lower control arm heim joint kit

    Randomness

    Built Diff

Installed fuel and brake lines. Also new master and brake booster.

    Installing suspension and quater glass.

Franky seems to be able to sleep anywhere.

Got some beat up redlines that I brought back to life.

Sealed up the front end nooks and crannies.

Painted the metal thing that the defrost blows through. Started installing random bits and pieces as well.

Quaife quick steering rack with bv gangster angle adapter.

Finally getting the motor and tranny in the car. What you dont see in this pics is fly wheel that wasnt torqued down. I found out later by having some good awful noises coming from the tranny area. lol Lucky I didnt lose any legs.

    Working on lca

Also spot welded these as well

    Front end coming together.

Trying to figure out mounting locations for engine bay accessories.

Changing wheel bearings and adding extended studs.

    Painting breaks.

    Stuff for batt relocation.

ended up making a tab on cage for negative battery ground. Figured it was the best place to put it. Solid ground for sure.

Bunch of battery cable routing and cleaning up harness routing.

    Installed new brake cables.

Mounted charcoal canister up front and out of engine bay.

Lowered rad brackets for better fit of radiator.

    Oil cooler kit.

    Cone of shame.

    Wrapped Trd header.

Started painting a bunch of interior pieces since all i had as a miss match of everything.

    Engine Bay almost done.

Modifying seat brackets so they can work with sliders and sit low in car.

    Finishing up fenders

    looking like a car

Getting wet sanded by pros. I was to chicken sh!t to do it.

Cleaned the hell and silicone up all the weather stripping and gaskets.

    Glass got installed

    More ish going on car.

    Sealed doors.

Car going off for an alignment.

    Car back home

Tomorrow I will try and get soem more pics of the current state of the car.

The big push is going to be to get the motor out gas tank out and rar end out so that i can start the swap process. I want to go equal length four link as well.
thnx for looking hope you guys like

Amazing detail, wish I had the patience to do mine to a standard of this car. But mine is track only so I don't care too much what it looks like, haha.

T3 over your way do a kit or something to use a supra diff bolt in, bigger than ae86 and should handle the Honda engine easy.
