Default Cat converter blowing out its insides.

I don't know how to put this but today when I was playing with wires to find the wire that is causing my car to run badly something weird happened

Anyways after a lot of starting and stopping over a couple of days and the car failing to start half the time I got the wires in a position where the car would run fine and have it a rev and "bang" half the innards off the cat blew out the back every where. It's only a new cat done about 150km, does anyone know what may have caused this ?? I've had a look about and found a few mixed answers.

    Cheers

When i had new high flow cats fitted to my "other" car the exhaust shop told me to not flog it for a couple hundred k's to heat cycle the cats as the metallic ones have to harden.

I dont know if it was bullshit or not though.

Excess fuel can apparently stuff them as well, they get to hot.

Right well there may be the problem it has been running very rich whilst playing up so that will have caused it then I think.
other then being illegal which I don't care about is there any other problems it may cause like not getting enough back pressure etc and will I have to make sure I clear the rest out or just let it come out itself ?

It's weird too the car seems slightly quieter now haha which is good as I need to add another muffler anyways.

A car needing back pressure is a myth.

Its probably quieter now because the cat is blocked, I'd gut it when you have a chance because its fucked anyway.
