Default 4AGE Air Intake Restriction. Alternative Systems / Solutions?

I have an '88 AE92 FXGT Bigport with Quads which I recently had re-dynoed by Adam @ JEM (+1 to these guys; finally got the car running like it should have).

The car dynoed 86FWKW @ 7700rpm but was pulling vacuum at higher RPM because of my restrictive inlet configuration*

I am running a modified OEM AE101 Levin Plenum on the ST QUADS running into an OEM AE92 450 duct & AirBox.

There are a lot of aftermarket Intake Systems out there but (for Street use at least); I would like to keep a Factory looking Intake arrangement but would obviously like better flow so was wondering the available options are.

My first thoughts were that I should firstly replace the Filter with an Apexi / TRD item and cut a 2nd hole in the base of the Factory Airbox & run a second Cold Air duct to a meshed inlet.

Another alternative is a Fibreglass TRD pattern (they say) Airbox with dual feeds @ photos *. AFAIK this would utilise an 8" < Cone / Mushroom ? > filter; but I'm not sure about it; mainly because I have my doubts about its LT durability (i.e. OEM unit is a tough Plastic Moulding with lots of strenghtening ribs while this is just a Fibreglass shell - wouldn't be surprised if it started cracking after 2-3 months). The other issue I have (apart from what type of Filter it takes) is how this Filter would seal properly against the casing (I don't see any stepped flange etc, unless you can buy sealing flanges).

I'd welcome comments from anyone that's buggered around with standard / modified Airboxes.

PS: Not interested in comments suggesting I just run a Pipe & Pod Filter as I want to keep OEM look for Street.

    * I will add images ASAP. System not allowing me to add images either via Attachments or Images Icons (images are < 40kB ea ??? )

You could muck around with a manometer (ebay, $40 for the cheapest) to find where the restriction actually is before you change anything.

Link on how to measure intake restrictions.

Im a diy'er so i like to prove things work/dont work before i change anything.

I used a manometer to find the best spot to put a bonnet vent, its actually a lot further forward than you would think!

The turbo ford Falcons are meant to have something that looks like an enclosed pod filter that looks really useful. I saw it on Autospeed.

Could you run trupets and cut the bottom of the plenum out, so you have trumpets with the "plenum" going over the top, but the plenum isnt closed in, but if you open the bonnet it jsut looks standard
