Default AE86 AE71 Tailahsft front section different?

    Hi,

Adding the finishing touches to my KE70 4AGE swap.

I have an AE86 S-diff at the moment.
The entire tailshaft is from the same car.
    Gearbox is t50

All of my research has told me that this should be fine.

However, I noticed that the yoke does not go into the gearbox as much as I expected it to (you can see the yoke exposed slightly)
The bolt holes for the tailshaft center bearing line up fine.
So my thinking is that the front section of the tailshaft is a little too short...

Is there a slightly longer one in the AE71?

Anybody got any pics of a similar setup? I'll try to get a picture tonight.

    Thanks

I always ran AE86 front section with whatever rear section to suit the diff in my KE70.

Where are you seeing the gap? Between yoke flange and gearbox end protecting cover or are you looking at it without the cover? I think being able to see 1cm between the output shaft seal and the yoke flange is fine.

Anyway, AE71 tailshaft isn't split (still a two-piece but not joined by a flange and 4 bolts) like AE86 one so you'll have to switch back to borgy to run it. or cut the flange off the diff end and weld that on. which I don't think you'll do/is worth the effort.

That's good to hear, at least I am using a known combination of parts, my biggest concern is that I messed something up.

Gap is between yoke flange and the end of gearbox casing (aluminium part).
Now that I think about it, the gearbox might be missing the deflector (thin metal cover on the end) which could make it look worse.

I didn't know that about the AE71 tailshaft, I won't be cutting / welding stuff at the moment.

You mean did I have the diff jacked up when I tightened the center bearing bolts? Yes I did...
