    which is the best gearbox to fit with a beams engine. also who is sydney is the best guy to modify engine to get big torque for a gravel rally car.

    Define "best".

    The options are:
    - J160, the Altezza 6 speed. Apparently the same general box used in the MX5 and RX8. This might give you options for different factory ratios, shifter positions, etc. I don't know any more, but the info must be out there.
    - W5*, Celica/Supra 5 speed. Cheaper and easier to find. You can get aftermarket gearsets for them if you want stronger/close ratio.
    - T50, not a serious option but there were a few cars that came with a T50 behind an S series motor.
    - Hollinger/Modena/whatever. Bring your chequebook.

    I'd say it would be easiest to try a Stock 6 Speed first up - No mucking around with bellhousings e.t.c. - Most Altezza half cuts come with a box and everything so it would be worth trying first

    What car is the beams going into?

    personally i would go w58 so you can still have a good shifter position and w58's have proven them selves to be a strong box
