Mx5 has ls2 that's how! Haha, still, nothing made me more excited than seeing a 4age ke roll up, and destroy the rolling 400s! How'd you go 800/1000s?, did ya get that front splitter sorted too?
What an absolute mind blowing weekend at Antilag Racewars. Never have I seen diversity of machines and people at a car event like I did over the last couple of days.
I have to give a massive thanks to all of the people who helped me get there to compete. Without the help, support and egging on from Autopro Canningvale , Maytech , Wheels World, Marbell Logistics, Beckersport, every business who I approached and was willing to get behind me and the fantastic support from great friends (who mostly kept telling me I was crazy).
Thanks heaps of everybody who came to support me and to wish me well, even if I was too busy to chat with you all and all of you guys and girls who had their fingers crossed for me because mine were too sore to cross them myself, you are all great and I appreciate every smile and comment and push and shove that kept me going.
I was plagued with boost control issues at full boost and honestly it never once occured to me that winding the boost down would be the solution. Not because I wasn't thinking straight, but because why the hell would you not want to max the heck out of your motor?? hahaha .A lot of my runs were done tuning the boost controller while racing down the track, by modulating throttle pressure and driving at 80-90% pedal most of the time. This was because my wastegate spring is 8psi and I was using the boost controller to get it up to 22psi, which is just too far for it to modulate well. I had some early issues with my bunnings front splitter due to its height which put me out for a while so I missed the chance to have lots of runs on the first day. I also had issues with the electrics, namely some pesky crank angle sensor wiring that due to the high RPM I am doing the wire actually broke inside the insulation and I was out for a while until we fixed that bush mechanic style, and it didn't let me down once after that.I really wanted more runs, but that's racing.
The roll on 800m drags were unreal and were really a highlight, especially runs with Patrick Herring and a rematch battle with Hampus Wallengren ! Your fancy lancer is still slow I had a go as passenger in a mates car and it was great to get a different perspective going down the strip.
I managed (with misfiring and boost issues) to do 222km/h in 26 seconds of the standing 1000m. I massively showboated for the cameras at the line (yeah it was worth it) so my time would have been greatly reduced if I had taken off properly instead of lighting it up on my 9500rpm limiter for a while but people loved it . It seems like a low terminal speed but when you see the leaderboard results it will give you some perspective with data from the other cars to compare with.
Pictures and videos will come in time, I will be making an album for all of the Corolla images I come across and will upload them in due course. Street Machine magazine also interviewed me numerous times over the weekend and have told me they are super keen to do a feature on the car, so look out for that.
Lastly but definitely NOT least, a huge massive beaming smile of thanks to Tash Nieuwenhuis for really putting up with my shit in the lead-up and during the event. You took care of me despite me health issues arising and complicating my life, listened to my ideas, gave me much needed reality checks, helped me prep the car where you could and kept me going all weekend. if you weren't around I really would have failed.
To all of the 86DC'ers that I met during the event and promised help and guidance I will see it through so send me a message some time and keep in touch !
If you want to see images and vide of the car popping up just add me to stalkbook
sorry I missed your post mate, yeah I got it sorted. I took it off, threw it in the back of the 4x4 and went back out there initially and we figured out later on that we could just basically put it back in place, push it up higher and tech screw it back into place so I did that !
I had some issues with the longer runs, mostly due to the boost control problems (all my fault) and the top speed is certainly not in the low end of the results I assure you !
Ah fairo, yeh i left just after i spoke to you at about 2ish on saturday, you said that you would mod it to fit :-P yeh that top speed is good:-O a few of my mates in gtrs only got 210-215 lol so ya did boss there!, nah was really good to see someone that has ignored all the bro science that goes on (ie smallports max out flow @ 200) haha! And proved it all wrong!
