Default G series diff. Hand brake cables.

Hey everyone. I've fitted a g series diff into my ae71 panelvan. From what I worked out the diff is out of a yn57 hilux. Bolts onto the leafs with no mods needed. Diff is drum brake.

My question is to do with the handbrake cables. I tried to fit the standard s series cables but failed beacause they bolt onto the drum backing plate differently. So I tried to shorten the hilux ones. Cut the cables and put them to the correct length. Cramped them back together using something I got from bunnings that is made for cramping cable wire together. Bolted them all up, and when I pulled the hand brake it was still loose. I can see the handbrake in the drum setup moving, but it isn't moving the drums. Could it be that the cables are not the correct shape anymore? As I had to bend the drivers side one a bit to fit in.

What have other people done when fitting hilux diffs into there corollas? Is there a cable that fits or do I need to get a complete new cables made? Or should I just for a hydro?

    All help is appreciated.

i got mine made up at a brake shop, i marked out on the stock cables what needs to be kept (body mounting locations) then marked where on the stock cables needed to be changed to the g series (in my case jza70 handbrake) so all is stock cable, untill it goes threw the g series backing plate and onto the handbrake mechanism.

loosen off the adjuster at the front lever to take measurements (where the cable loops) so when you get it back you have heaps of adjustment to tighten it up.

do you have the g series cables ? they might need to match them up. so they can add them to the new cables to fit your car.

Cheers man. Yeah I got the g series cables. I just cut the ends off, and crimped them in the correct position. Had a feeling it wouldn't be that simple but thought I would give it a go lol

Yeah rip the lever up and nothing. Wouldn't no if the drums are adjusted. Just left them as they where. Probly wouldn't hurt to pull the drum assembly apart and freshen it up anyway.

Was mainly wanting to know what other people have done when they have fitted different diffs

Yeah I did that and they move but only slightly. Think ill have to pull the drum apart and freshen everything up a little bit. Wouldn't hurt to do that anyway.
