    Default ae86 antenna...

well ive had a headunit for a while, mostly listen to mp3's cause thats all i can do at this point, my problem is that radio has very shitty reception when driving ? which is making me guess its the antenna ? if not maybe 20 year old antenna wiring ? works fine when sittin in one spot as soon as i start driving gets fuzzy and can barely hear it

I tore mine out cause it was a piece of shit. Go to Jaycar/Autobarn/Supercheap or whatever you have where you are and you can buy an in-car one that hooks into a 12v source, neg and the pos side of your rear demister. I had one of these, but never hooked it up to the demister cause my demister was never hooked up, but it didn't seem to work too badly. I think it cost me $20.00.

Where did you mount your in car antenna? On the top of the windscreen or at the side?

I'm thinking of getting one too as I experience bad reception while driving even though I installed a new headunit recently...

I don't know much about this, but as has been said, a better modern antenna is a powered type. It needs a 12v wire, and the antenna itself does not have to be as big or tall. (Note how new corolla ones are short and rubbery, and Camry ones are in the window).

To fix problems with the original aerial, try routing the wire differently, and not as close to other wires.

So the 12V wire is for an amplifier that is possibly built into the antenna? Never thought of it that way, I might get one of those in that case...

i might give that a shot never knew there was another antenna to try, i was just trying standard ae86 one, but i think it must be the antenna not the wireing

Listening to music while driving would actually feel like the ride faster. But if the signal gets a little fuzzy, it could really be irritating. Well certain factors affect the reception it receives. Turning off electrical devices or at least putting it away from the radio to avoid interference. And try changing the mode to mono instead of tuning to the stereo mode. Or have a longer antenna for a better reception to receive.
