Post newbie ae86 build rb20det motor swap

hi all new to this kind of thing I've recently got my self a ae86 1993 model with a standard 4a manual little bit of rust but running for a cheap $1000 cash. I plan to sell the motor and box to help fund the project witch will be to use the car for drift and hill climbs. also on my trip I organised a standard rb20det without the turbo $550 and a 5 speed manual box for $250 so when I sell the motor and gear box that will help fund a high mount manifold and a gt30 turbo and a hd clutch as well. So far I have completely stripped the car of all its interior and dash to make way for the custom dash and new larger tranny tunnel. also I have done a bit of searching around and found out I need a tuffer diff.

What are you going to doing the way of compensating suspension wise for the heavier motor? RB20DET's are fairly heavy, MOTOR ONLY 200kg - 250kg add gearbox on and that's a heavy motor for a ~1000kg Corolla.
If you went SR20DET or CA18DET, you're only looking around 200kg WITH gearbox.

It's been done a few times but i think you need to assess if the benefit of the extra power is worth the handling loss since it is going to be for drift and hill climb days.

Want different slam an rb26 in it.
    Or a 26b quad rotor
There are reasons you won't see an rb20 in an 86. Or anything else for that matter.
The main one being a reliable power gain can be achieved with a lighter weight, smaller motor.
An rb20 would be a downgrade in any car.
Hence why you got it so cheap.
    It's 6 slugs and 2L
    Doesn't 4 and 2 sound alot better.

In all cases of racing the weight affects acceleration, braking distance, cornering speed, corner exit and entry speed...
Heavier the slower, it's a simple concept.

Under steer becomes an bigger issue and needs to be delt with via suspension setup.

The 4cyl motor, be its 3s, SR or CA ( just most common ones)
Are used because they are light and make enough reliable power then you could ever use in a car like an 86.

Being different requires alot more thinking then you may think.

    Something smaller ? V8?

x3 for what Joel said, couldn't be worded better!!

If you go with a bigger engine you will be disappointed when every other corolla with a 4cyl rounds you up around the track despite having less power.

I actually think an rb20 would be sweet in a 86.. Don't leave it for others to decide for you man.. If that's what you want to try then that's that.. Selling and swapping n everything else your gonna have to do to get a 25 will end up costing more.

I've personally seen rb20's put good power down and be reliable as a 4k at the track... Its not much extra weight when you think about it, a 4a+turbo+w series gearbox plus a heavier diff and it would be much of a discrepancy between the two.. And you get a solid bottom end you can rev the ass off and a shit tonn of torque from the inline 6 in comparison of a 4cyl of the same capacity.

    Just my 2c..
