    From what I was taught, if a engine destroys itself, and there is metal thru the oil system, then accessory parts like oil coolers are to be thrown away.
    You will never get 100% of remains out of a oil cooler.

    Really, instead of spending hours attempting to clean an infected one, and still being unsure at the end, wouldn't you be better off just buying another one???

    If your engine spun a bearing just throw the oil cooler core out, it acts like a massive filter when a failure occurs and you will never get all the contamination out. Wash all the lines and filter head out with kero or some form of solvent then blow them through to ensure all metal is removed.
    If you reuse the oil cooler core there is a very good chance you will be changing the motor again.

    So I've ended up with a new core, I also bought a new oil filter mount as my current one had some sort of coating chipping away on the inside :/
