Not to pry or anything mate but what do you do for work over there???
So I recently moved to Japan, been here for 3 weeks now, living in Nagoya area. I've had a bit of time to settle in and found myself an 86 levin coupe. This is my 4th one
Its still in the process of getting it registered so I don't have any pics yet. but watch this space.
The car is built to compete in a local low level racing series called N1.
It'll also be used for some track days, gymkhanas and I hope some ice time trials. But the main purpose is to enter N1 (and hopefully be competitive!). The main thing that will hold me back will be my own skill nut hopefully this will give me a chance to improve a lot.
I pick up the car next weekend. I heard that there is a drift practice day next Sunday. Bit of shame that I didn't have any spare wheels or tyres so that I would actually have something to drive home on. Also I had to work all week and would have no time to pick anything up during the week. No worries... just head down to the local used wheel shop at 8pm on a Sunday night and grab some cheap wheels.
P1 racing 15x7 with good tyres, not bad for $600 i felt. These will also fit the biggest tyres that N1 will allow and they feel a bit lighter than my 14x7 works... need to confirm on the scales though.
Tyres are nice but they will be totally destroyed next weekend haha!
here is my previous car I had in Japan then brought back to Aus.
And here is my KE which i still have back in aus.
Not to pry or anything mate but what do you do for work over there???
Could of bought mine I have for sale in okayama city.
: )
hah that didnt take long, good work rob.
keep an eye out for some window visors for me =)
put up some pics of the new coupe
check out my build thread: http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/fo...-shuttle-wagon
Hey Tristan, sweet looking car! It's actually really cheap compared to a lot of the truenos on goo net etc. You cant get anything decent around Nagoya for under 1,000,000yen
Not quite what I was after though, way too clean!
Why you selling?
Hey Rob....Car looks great. You would have to be happy with it, are there many events you can do around your area?
I hope it's easier to get an N1 spec car licenced over there than it was here...Lol.
so I got the ring gear changed over. It was making a ridiculous noise, even with ear plugs my ears hurt!
You can see from the face of the pinion teeth what caused it! Really bad pitting.
probably what happened was that there was not enough preload on the gears caused by either the inital setup or by bearing wear (there looked like a bit). Essentially the 2 gears rattle together and cause the pitting from high surface stress... well thats what i reckon anyway.
the gear that came out seems to be an original toyota 4.8 (actually 4.777) sold by trd. You can see the ratio stamp which toyota always do. Can't buy these new anymore so its a shame to have to bin it.

Engine is being built at the moment to 'N1' specs... whatever the hell that means
I'll try get some pics of the assembly being done at a local workshop.
In other news the N1 comp has decided to change the regulation tyre for next year from Dunlop Z2 to a Bridgestone off some sort. I was planning on entering the last race of the season this year as practice for next year. But its a bit of a waste for when I have to buy new tyres in for the next round. What I might do is enter the open class which usually have FD's, s13/15/15, DC's etc. however the front runners tend to run faster than the 86's so I won't have much of a chance.

Thanks mate,
I ended up selling it to someone I knew for 370,000 Yen.......I cried a little bit after.
Sold it for a few reasons, Shaken was up in early august, quitting my job in august and moving to Okinawa so I don't have to put up with the shitty winters here anymore. Probs just get a honda vamos van or something for my next car here haha.
Nice car too mate. I had a levin in brisbane the same color years ago.
