Its always going to be cheaper to buy someone else's project, but you have to find a balance between what's really rewarding. Heck you might save 5k that way, but sometimes losing that money in trade for blood, sweat and tears and the right to say 'I built that' is all worth it. At the end of the day its about what you did not how much money you have in the bank

These are all good responses, keep them coming!

The thing that works for me is not claiming the tax free threshold. Buying small things then come tax time, boom. Car feasts, while I famine. Although lately I have been selling every tax time... And this year is no exception. Ae111 for sale

Also do this...while living at home...can prolly understand why my build has silly parts outlay now lol...

but I am one of those people on good money that also has expensive tastes/desires...I find ways to spend money for the sake of it...

the gf is slowing bringing this under control, but has been notified the car spend ups continue and she has not one say in the matter lol

so you can learn from our mistakes ^^^^

1- always use your own money, dont get into debt
2- more seat time, less build time
3- someones loss will almost always be your gain
    4- ?????
    5- profit
    stroked 2L ca18-ae86 in the build...eta xmas 2012?

Never get into debt with something that you cant make a return on.......

Getting a personal loan to build a car is THE MOST STUPID THING EVER............EVER. You pay with someone elses money on a depreciating asset that you then have to pay a huge amount of interest on top of.

The gap of what its worth compared to what you have paid just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Seriously, you are young and have a job. Get some bank behind you, if you want a car. Save the majority of it.........Good things come to those who wait.

I know I sound like a boring old man, but as Johl has said "Learn from our mistakes"
