Default Meet the Drivers – Shannons Supercar Showdown

Shannons Supercar Showdown returns to 7mate in 2013 for its 3rd series!

A change of garage this season to Ford Performance Racing, brings with it a host of new twists and turns that will see 8 rookie drivers hit the starting grid to battle it out under the watch of Ford Pepsi Max Crew stars, Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison.

In an exciting new twist, this year's showdown pits Frosty v Davo, who will each mentor 4 drivers through the TV series in their roles as team captains.

So far six out of eight contestants have been revealed for the starting grid with backgrounds from Go-Karting, Formula Ford and Formula 3 to V8 UTES.

    NAME: Adrian Campfield
    COUNTRY: United Kingdom
    AGE: 24
    OCCUPATION: Kart Driver Coach
A talented Formula Ford driver, Adrian Campfield's race career has been plagued by financial troubles. The 24 year old Brit has not raced a full season in 3 years and is desperate to get back behind the wheel. At his peak Adrian competed in the ADAC Formel Masters in Germany and these days he stays in touch with motorsport through his work with a highly rated British karting team.

    NAME: Craig Dontas
    STATE: South Australia
    AGE: 33
    OCCUPATION: Business Development Manager
CURRENTLY RACING: Australian V8 Ute Series
Family man Craig Dontas has been racing for as long as he can remember and brings plenty of experience to the competition. For the past 7 years he has competed in the Australian V8 Ute series for Thirsty Camel Bottleshops Racing. Craig also has a background in motorsport business and works on the board of the Clipsal 500. This is Craig's last chance to fulfil his dream of racing V8 Supercars and he hopes he'll make his wife and 3 young boys proud.

    NAME: Chelsea Angelo
    STATE: Victoria
    AGE: 17
    OCCUPATION: Student
    CURRENTLY RACING: Victorian Formula Ford
At 17 years of age and currently studying Year 11 Chelsea Angelo is the baby of the competition. After a successful junior career in motocross and karting, Chelsea made the move to Formula Ford aged 15. She already holds the Formula Ford lap record at Phillip Island and was recently involved in a V8 test day at Winton. Although she may be the youngest rookie, when that helmet goes on Chelsea is as tough as her male competitors.

    NAME: James Golding
    STATE: Victoria
    AGE: 17
    OCCUPATION: Apprentice Mechanic
    CURRENTLY RACING: Victorian Formula Ford
Apprentice mechanic James Golding is 17 years old and new to Formula Ford in 2013. Proving he has plenty of natural talent he has already claimed the Formula Ford lap record at Eastern Creek in NSW. Growing up, karting was a big part of his family's life and James excelled at the sport. Last year he competed at the Rotax Karting World Championships in Portugal where he finished an impressive 7th from over 70 competitors.

    NAME: Todd Hazelwood
    STATE: South Australia
    AGE: 16
    OCCUPATION: Student
    CURRENTLY RACING: National Formula 3
For young gun Todd Hazelwood, life is one big balancing act. As well as racing, this 17 year old also juggles his Year 12 studies and a part time job. Todd started a very successful junior karting career at the tender age of 7, before moving up to Formula Ford and now Formula 3. He is backed by his incredibly supportive family, who hold weekly fundraising events to help make ends meet. A Ford fanatic with dreams of racing professionally, winning this competition would mean the world to Todd.

    NAME: Tim Macrow
    STATE: Victoria
    AGE: 31
    OCCUPATION: Driver Coach
    CURRENTLY RACING: Australian Formula 3
Statistically the most successful driver in Australian Formula 3 history, Tim Macrow initially took up the sport to follow in the footsteps of his famous father Peter Macrow. While Tim's driving ability shone as he moved up through the ranks, ultimately a lack of finances stopped him from progressing further than the Formula 3 category. After a few years of racing sporadically, the 31 year old has put everything on the line to race a full season in 2013. Tim's work as a driver coach also keeps him connected to the motorsport world.

Will it be one of these 6 that take away the opportunity of a lifetime? A testing contract with V8 Supercar team Ford Performance Racing.

    Series 3 returns to 7mate September 14th.
