That joiner is not factory. It's the lazy mans way of soldering. And yeah it's crap. Get rid of it and use proper heat shrink/solder.
4agte finally finished. 252rwkw with more to come

    Cheers Eddie! Yep, knox carpet.
I couldn't find a single speck of info about underfelt, placement or where to cut it.
Have you got any images at all of factory placement?

I was also under the impression it only went in the foot wells, but as I said, when fitting it it was really really loose around the gearbox tunnel.
I might have a bit more of a play around tomorrow and see what it fits like if I thicken up just the foot wells.

And yeah, might even do it the radio wiring tomorrow.

Worked out why I couldnt find any pics of it, underfelt is stuck to the carpet itself in the 86s
Did a bit of japanese googling and found a lot more info.

Been slow and haven't had much time to play, but the old man and I spent Sunday and got the rear end all up and complete!

Also started to fit up my seats before I get all the carpet in and make it dirty. Might spend another day tomorrow on it and try to get the carpet cut to be fitted.

Been doing a few small things here and there in amongst thesis stress (less than 4 weeks away!)

Modelled and got some headlight eyebrows 3D printed.
After printed, they were sanded, high-fill primed, then painted.
