Just rewatched the video - still like it

Nah, engine not in - no idea when I'll get around the that.
Was waiting to hear cam specs and organising the builder to get the dizzy (for trade discounts)

I want to paint the brackets and water system as well - get it looking fresh.

Riddle me this... is there any real reason I can't run the FWD water system?
It's essentially the same. Just arrange slightly different, right?
With a bracket and some different hoses I could mount it on the block.

Also, interesting to see the cam specs once dialed in.

    IN - HKS 264 cam
    ______________
    Centreline: 105 deg
    Duration @ 50 = 226
    Advertised Duration = 264
    Valve lift = 328 thou (8.33mm)

EX - Clive cam made to match (i'm guessing he used a very close match)
    ________________
    Centreline: 110 deg
    Duration @ 50 = 219.5
    Advertised Duration = 266
    Valve lift = 328 thoug (8.33mm)

    Overall lobe seperation: 107.5 deg
    Compression ratio = between 10.8:1 -> 11:1

    ### SORRY FOR THE HIJACK JARRAD ###

    Thanks again for that info.

I did a good ol' internet search after asking this question and found that these 6 speed Altezza boxes (AZ6) aren't that common here in Aus.

Turns out that a W box is a better option due to availability and final position of shifter, not to mention the fact you could pretty much bolt one up in an afternoon without any fabrication.

Leen from Ireland made a great conversion package for a j160 gearbox. But I can't seem to find the link to their page anymore

    Hey Jarrad,
I just went back and looked at this build in pictures only. So much progress. It's going to be like driving a new car when this is done.

I think you should go with the options of carbs as it will make this car unique. But maybe you could run an EFI setup first for rego/initial vehicle setup and testing, then down the track change the 16 valves diet to a high carb one...

    Looking forward to updates.

I have definitely thought about it - but if I'm setting it up, it'll only be getting set up one way.

The shop doing the final touches on it and tuning it I believe also do roadworthies - It may pay that I speak with them.
I think if they're reasonable, and happy with the car and how it has been done (obviously not cutting corners) it's definitely in a roadworthy and fit-to-drive state.
I would feel personally safe letting someone else drive the car knowing no corners have been cut, and nothing is unsafely "dodgy" in it.
Definite changes for RWC will have to be the wheel and tyre setup.

I've also considered the technicalities of it. The car was originally 4AC - carby. The engine was EFI.
Emissions etc - simply bolting on a cat would meet emissions of the 4AC.

TRD bible clearly shows a 4AG running carbs, and provides an original TRD part number - it's reasonable to assume (tell people) that it's no longer available and was substituted with a similar set up.
I also know of a few cars that have been imported running carbs that passed all their papers and checks and were registered as they landed.
I think there's enough legal "grey-area" that I shouldn't have to worry, haha.

It's the same deal as my front seats. Legally need engineering - however they're period correct, use 4/4 original bolt holes and the original seat rails.
Something most people wouldn't look twice at.

Anyway! Cross that bridge when I get to it. If it becomes a big hassle - so be it.

That's awesome you found a TRD part number for the carb setup. And gives you an idea of fuel system requirements too!

I'm sure the RWC guy will notice the amount of effort you have put into this build and should be more impressed than looking for negatives. Maybe you could be there in your sunday best just making sure they know you are watching/eager to hear the good news. Hopefully they aren't stiffs.

Also, more info on your seats please.
    What are they out of?
    Where did you get them?
    How much?
Have you seen any more since?
    Is this too many questions?
What are they like to sit in?

I put a GZE into a KE70 wagon a few years back and took lots of photos of the water system setup. I'll have a look for them when I get home to see if they can help. The main idea was to get it working properly while also making it look good, all while on a budget. The only thing... The motor came out of another KE70 so it may have already been fitted with RWD waterpump, etc.

    Sweet! That'd be good.
Something like this is pretty neat. All FWD stuff.

    SEATS:
    1. Lancer EVO 1 GSR

    2. Found them on eBay - local to me
    3. From memory, around $550 - $600 for the pair
    4. Haven't really been looking
    5. No - bonus answer - material impossible to get/match
    6. Comfortable. Wrap around, feel like you're laying back a little bit, but sits you right in the seat.

Yes! That's what I did with my setup.

Looked at my photos and none of them show it as good as that. You can see the small extension hose from the back of the pump to the thermostat. It's just a matter of routing the bottom radiator hose from the thermostat housing (try to keep it free flowing without any kinks), obviously going underneath the engine mount.

Thanks for the answers, it really helps my own seat search, although you should've tried harder on question 4... lol.

Its a good price for a neat & clean matching pair.
