Yeah, bright silver! Saw some nice bays in Japan and took a little inspiration off some of them. I want it looking quite neat but not suuuuuper show-car.

Provided time and life stay out of it - not far! Trying to do something every day even if it's small.

Today's task was to solve my water outlet problem. Turns out M16 to 5/8 elbows don't exist anywhere in the world. So had to fork out for some speedflow fittings. Also while I was at Pirtek I got a bit of longer braided hose to fit up my oil cooler. Thankfully it came with fittings.

My next major job is wiring. Also need to find a solution to hitting the clutch slave as I've checked a few different brands and they all seem to be similar in design.

Been a while since an update has happened! (two months!)

Car is getting pretty close now. Been learning and asking about wiring and it's pretty close now.
Still a little lost on some loose wires I have.

Water system is fully completely minus one bottom hose clamp.

Fuel system mostly sorted as well, had the carbs on and off a couple times to check for clearances and stuff.
Done pretty well minus the fuel pump - not yet sure where to mount it.
Near the tank most likely unless I run a lift pump too.

Filled the engine with oil... Learnt that it has an oil return on the smallport sump haha. Oil everywhere. Solved that with a secondary sump plug.

Was also having issues with my extractors hitting my clutch slave. Bosch #JB4154 works as an alternative to the ADM/t18 clutch slave.

Clearance issue solved. Bleeder valve still fouls. But easily resolved.

Also think I'm going to do the unthinkable - heat wrap my exhaust in black. Pretty vs. practicality.
They run so close to the dizzy, starter, slave and oil filter. Will also keep engine bay temps down.

Ceramic coat the extractors. Heat wrap is crap to work with and tends to explode if it gets wet.

I even had problems with a ceramic coated header. You may have to fabricate heat shields for the dizzy, oil filter, and possibly the engine mount. My slave cyl on the other side, but that could also heat soak. Dave W

Header wrap works well for me in keeping bay temps down, still need a heat shield for starter and distributor though. Fine on the road, just with long periods of throttle on track they tend to melt.

Make sure you have long rubber gloves though, gets itchy fast otherwise.

Finishing touches on this side of the exhaust and clutch. You can see I've finally mounted it properly (minus the spring) and got a short bleeder valve for the hilux slave.

Also ended up wrapping my headers. Read a few different views on them but at this point and how often I'll be driving the car very hard I think they'll be okay. I left the bottom part unwrapped and the rest of the exhaust won't have it either so I guess some heat will still be able to escape. Plus when it gets tuned, it should be tuned when at temperature and I'm guessing some of the excess heat generated will hopefully be used in combustion *shrugs* haha

Also fitted the drive belt, had to go longer to allow the alternator to clear underneath the carb and water lines. It's all very tight and I was worried about the heat on the intake side too. But as pointed out to me, silicon is a great insulator (oven mits, cake tins) so shouldn't transfer much heat.

    It's so close.

Heat wrap looks good. If I do it again I will consider black actually. Much more subtle, would be perfect for a street car where you don't want to draw too much attention
