    Hey guys, thought I should finally introduce myself and my project to the community.

    My names Jarrad, from Melbourne. You may/may not have seen my KE70 around. That's been on the road for a couple of years now.

    Now into the good stuff.

    I bought this AE86 in October 2012 with a friend, plans changed, and I ended up with the car. The guy selling it wasn't in Melbourne, and his parents were making him get rid of it. He was GUTTED! Real sad on the phone - so if you're reading this, it's definitely getting the love it deserves.
    It was probably about 80% complete, missing a couple of interior plastics, engine and gearbox, and a few other odds and ends. Came with both a T and an S series diff, with tailshafts.

    I began with a full strip down of all components, cataloging what I had/didn't have, and what probably needed replacing.
    I washed the whole car, inside and out, and began to tackle some repairs.

    Replaced the boot floor with the floor out of a KE70. It's glued, then stitched in in about 10 places. This glue is crazy.

    It's all in the details: I've shaved rear washer jet, lock, wiper and antenna. Will be running an internally mounted antenna. Just leaves the lines un-interrupted

    I picked up a smallport 4age. After a MASSIVE debacle. took me four months and a trip to Sydney to finally get it in my hands. Hopefully it runs when I get around to it.

    Will probably be going with white for the colour, this is Holden's "arctic white" on the scraper, compared the the white mine will be. 100% tinter free, pure white.

    Again, small details. Pulled my dash apart, painted the needles, replaced the globes with wedge LEDs.

    So that's that!
    What's left to do?

    Repair the rear quarters & give them a slight roll/flare.
    Rub and paint the car, and then the bumpers.
    Then comes all the mechanical, wiring, interior, etc. etc.
    Still a ways away. Hoping to have it painted by Christmas.

    What are my goals for this car?
    I want a nice little streeter. Probably freshen the engine up with a mild cam. I'm not really into the whole drift thing, so just something that if I want to take up up the hills on a Sunday arvo for a quick squirt.

    Looking the goods mang, looks like there was some serious rust there. You painting bumpers white as well?

    Yeah, personally the rust repairs weren't as bad as expected.
    Believe me, I've seen worse haha.

    I'll be painting just the tops of the bumpers, with the rest re-done in bumper textured black.

    I had rust in the rear arches, across the front of the roof, bottom of the doors, the boot floor, and in the door openings.
    Also so surface rust on the firewall from a leaky master cylinder. I think molding the wing was one of the biggest jobs yet!

    ETA... no idea. Painted and at home by Christmas hopefully. We've (dad) got a panel shop, which is a wicked resource to have.
    After that, it's interior and getting the running gear working. I have some rough ideas on interior. My theme for this build is OEM+. Keep it simple, black and grey interior. With some factory Recaros from another model car. I've got a 2001 Corolla radio for it with Toyota logos on it. A nice leather steering wheel. I'll try to do most of it myself.

    So as all car guys know, things don't always go to plan.

    Car won't be painted and at home for christmas, had a few things come up, went to Spain for a uni project, dad broke his leg so isn't able to give me a hand with the quarters, but here's what I have done!

    Engine bay is painted!
    Undercarriage is painted!
    Diff, painted arms, bushes, panhard is fitted.
    Put the rear wheels on to check for fitment etc, and how much work will be needed to fit them.
    Picked up some 80's Recaros in immaculate condition for a good price on eBay!

    Also picked up an engine stand from Repco today. $59! How good is that?

    Got some brake lines fitted up today, all cleaned and painted fressssssh!
    Also fitted my crossmember.

    Mayyy be ordering coilovers soon. I guess when I'm putting all the front suspension in to get it a rolling shell. It may as well be new stuff, instead of old which will be swapped out later.

    So this past week I've been prepping to get the shell rolling, as I ordered myself a Christmas present

    Ended up getting BC BR series coilovers. Custom ordered spring rates of 7kg Fronts and 4.5kg rears.
    They were the best combination of price and function for my needs.


    I had contemplated ordering shockworks (As I have only hear positive feedback on them), however this car will mostly be a street/show (not Autosalon, haha) car with the occasional track day. As well as only being driven occasionally (as it will be club reg'd) made it hard for me to justify almost $800 extra that could be spent elsewhere on the car (which is already at a considerable sum!)
    I run BC V1 in my daily (2002 Corolla) and they do they job.


    So I masked up the white, taped over all the small holes to prevent overspray going into the fresh bay, and finished the underbody.

    I painted both front wheel arches and the tunnel in PPG G.M.H black.
    In hindsight, this probably should've been done BEFORE painting that engine bay, but it didn't really matter to be honest. It wasn't a hard job to mask it.

    Although not pictured, I painted the wiper motor today and fitted it, as well as the clutch line. It was 40 degrees, so it was a pretty slow day today haha.

    This picture of the wiring loom is from a mate's Silvia he built. He did the loom himself and it's a very tidy job. So I think I will commission him to do something similar for my loom.
    It's a heat resistant wrap. I can't remember what It's called, but it's a very nice look, and a very nice job.

    Also got some stickers made up! These are pre-production reproduction stickers. Got them done as a trial to see how they worked out, fitment, look etc.
    i'm looking at offering a full range of reproduction stickers in the future. These are currently vinyl cut, but in the new year, I will be able to get them printed on clear, the same as the factory decals

    So what's coming up next?

    Probably doing all the front brakes and wheel bearings, etc. May as well when I'm fitting the hubs and stuff up to the new coilovers.
    Going to pull the heater core out as well soon, as the pipes are damaged. So will send that the get rebuilt while I have the whole dash out.
    LOTS of work coming up in the next couple of weeks (I just work at the local Woolies, which is crazy at Christmas time. I have Christmas and Boxing Day off for the next few weeks)
    So probably not a lot will happen, haha.
