question out of curiosity, why would you chuck away the twin piston calipres on the xt130 struts and i dare say downgrade to ra60 calipres?

i have ra60 struts and brakes on my car, and the braking ability of the ra60 calipre is absolutely nothing to rant and rave about let alone justify rebuilding them.

im sure you have a reasons behind running such a set up, maybe there is somthing for me to learn

Xt130 discs are solid, ra60 discs are ventilated and from memory are slightly larger at 265mm?
The fixed twin piston calipers in the xt130's are garbage.

I've edited my previous post, the correct calipers to use are the MX62 cressida calipers (they are quite similar to the ra60 jobbies but have better geometry for this application).

I built a set of these for a mate's 90Rwkw ta22 and it handles track days very well.

Whilst the ra60's may not be the most powerful option, they are cheap and the vented disc is a considerable advantage.

On fixed vs sliding, most of the new BMW M cars are fitted with sliding calipers. Fixed might sound good on paper but there is nothing wrong with a sliding caliper.

I bought an AE71 about 3 months ago. Right from the start I have been tempted to go for a power upgrade, but after past projects I realised its just silly unless you have the necessary upgrades to go with it.

So far I have upgraded springs, shocks, diff, camber / caster tops, steering rack, bushes, tyres and now swaybar. I can tell you that its alot more fun going through the hills with a 4AC with a decent setup, than going through the hills with a stock setup.

It may cost a bit to get it all in and sorted, but its well worth it in the end

big brakes on a corolla? lol

i had the xt130 brakes on my car and they were great. only changed them due to s13 front end.

vent rotors are good but only if you really brakes heavily and consistantly. in my experience with my rolla in the hills (did reefton/warby spur looped back through black spur with no stops) and didnt notice any fading. mostly because in such a light car with such low power you are never really that hard under brakes.

whether you go ae86 struts and brakes, or xt130 struts, or even s13 front end. as long as you do some research and mod the car HOW YOU WANT TO DRIVE IT!!! then your heading in the right direction.

dont take anyones word as gospel, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. work things out for your self too.

    not entirely correct.

kings springs can make any springs to order for around $180/pair.

i got some coilover springs made, just have to give them internal diameter, length and spring rate and some money.

they print the details on the spring them selves. note im not trying to sway anyone away from mr AJPS, but kings is a good option.

    as for your ae71

the 4ac has plenty of power to get youreself into and out of trouble. had some good times in my mates ae86 with a 4ac.

dont spend up too big on your wheels. but get good tyres, so save like $600 or so for tyres, and get a nice set of meshies for 400 or so.

    as for suspension and brakes.

mr konakid has it pretty well covered but you dont have to do it all at once to start having some fun in the hills. just dont go too hard too soon.

The 4AGE is a necessity. The 4AC in there is breathing its last breaths.

Thanks for the advice guys. Looks like I've got a lot of rethinking to do...
