I did a SOR for my 4age ke70 a couple of years ago, they wanted a rigidity test along with other tests, so I would imagine they would want them from this

Oh and my conversion was done with all ae71/86 parts

i spoke to David the head of the standards people with reference to my existing 7MGE SOR, he said it would mostly be the same for 7MGTE as its already a capacity change and +30% power increase, possibly with a lane change test, and less likely with a brake test depending on the updated list of brake mods and supporting mods on the new MR620. Both I would be reluctant but fine to do (they'll be easy to pass anyway). He said nothing about chassis rigidity and hopefully he never does haha

The engineers i spoke to said that should I need a chassis test they would be surprised if it failed as stock....thats nice but I'm not super confident ill pass without extra bracing, seam welding, or whatever else.

Did you end up actually doing the test on the KE70? Howd you go?

I was speaking with Josh Smith from Autest about the torsional rigidity testing and he said it's usually big old yank cars that fail. He showed me the process on a car which was going through engineering at the time, a 1GGZE RT132 Corona - you might have seen it at AJD - which are definitely not the stiffest cars to leave the toyota stable, 5 doors hatchback, long body, chassis rails that stop in the middle section (like xE7x / AE86) etc etc, and it passed with extremely easily. Higher grade steel was mentioned. MA61 has fewer open areas (i.e. no rear doors) and thicker pillars, so I wouldn't stress about it too much.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?

    Time for an update.

7MGTE was approved in October and then revised again in December. I'll need Nissan 4 pot brakes and 296mm rotors, an idle speed emissions test, and a regency roadworthiness inspection (same as the one to clear a defect).

Just this week I bought an engine, it came out of an MA61 too so it will be very easy work. I think it might be a complete MA70 Turbo A engine, but it at least has the Turbo A intake and the ECU.

Have you consulted with a chartered engineer also along the way, or just submitted the application of modification?
There is a 4agze ae86 around Adelaide registered which has been engineered.

I've spoken 5 or 6 different engineers pre-MR620 and all of them just had hypothetical suggestions. The most helpful person to speak to was David Gunnar at DPTI. In the end after submitting 2 MR620s my Statement Of Requirements didn't stipulate that a chartered engineer look over anything! So I am starting to dislike the term engineered as it's almost meaningless. I can get this 7MGTE and the brakes and a few other things in the car and onto the rego papers without actually paying a chartered engineer a cent...but it's still called engineering lol

EDIT: I have however been using Martyn Adams (MDA Motorcycle Engineering) in Mt Barker for my custom work, like the mods to the hubs/rotors to get the R33 brakes to fit. He's got a great eye for detail and accuracy. I'd recommend him to anyone for literally anything.

Ok good to know. I was wondering whether you had spoken with Tonkin consulting, Rory Thompson or Doug Potts. All good. Will be great once you have it on the road. Great work!
