    Default Black Top 3sge vs 3rz-fe st141

    Hi all!!!!
Okay so heres the go, recent bought my rona and doing a engine conversion thing is im stuck with what engine to go with..
People say 3rz-fe is a torque monster no doubt around that... lol being in a hilux
But heaps of people tend to go with the 3sge in the ronas same thing? should just bolt to original cross member?

anyways whats a better engine and why???
    what makes better power?
    what takes more abuse?
    thanks.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Both are good motors, one is a high-revving, performance NA screamer. The other is a truck motor that has stacks of torque, is pretty bulletproof and has almost unlimited potential if you turbo it and do more work (have a look at some of the Peurto Rican drag cars running 8s, or maybe even 7s with them).

Yes, the 3S should bolt onto your crossmember, but that will save you max 5% of the work for the conversion. Basically don't choose your engine solely due to this.

What are your plans? What do you want the car to be? And how big a project do you want? Also there is probably a long list of things you should do to the car before jumping into an engine conversion.

3RZ + turbo if you are inclined, good strong motors as Hen said. The beams will never be enough power for big skids at high speed on australian tracks, you will get bored.

Or to make it even cheaper and as much as i dont like cross breeding toyotas, get an SR20det with box, make the mounts, custom tailshaft and up the boost. The extra torque is what you need for smoking tyres. A 3RZ turbo setup would snowball to be expensive

The only way you'll get knocking from any engine is if it isn't looked after, or you're revving it too hard which really comes under the first point anyway. I hate SR's, but anything can live a long and happy life if it's built properly and looked after. If spinning 4th with ease is your only concern put an LS series engine in it.

If you have the budget the answer is neither 3S nor 3RZ...2RZ has the most potential NA. 95mm bore, 86mm stroke. Included valve angle is about 22 degrees. Standard intake valve is 37mm which is massive, 39mm valves are available which are bigger than the Cosworth valves available for the Duratec. If you build it right one of these can make 330hp @ 9k with a torque curve that will shit all over an S14. The only negatives are the size and weight. And cost of building a 9k rpm engine.
