Default BRC - Because Race Car Event last night

Anyone go on the BRC cruise last night down the coast?
Fair few clubs etc and a subi dealership turned up with a few spankas STI's from the showroom floor.

From what I see the fuzz did their best to shut it down though, so I am told BRC went through the right channels etc advising the police and others of what they were doing before and outlining no hooning etc.

During the event there was no hooning etc but the fuzz still harassed people. Poor form considering they could have used it as a PR service to improve relations between car people and the police.
But one can't blame the plods out there doing as they were no doubt ordered by higher up to carry out said actions and prob could have spent the time better doing what the gold coast needs more which is attending actual crimes and patrolling the needed areas.

Interested to hear everyone's take on it that went.

    Cheers

I'm sick of people into cars thinking that we can build some sort of 'cool cushy happy' relationship with the police. It will never happen. They hate us, they know what we get up to in our cars and they have free reign through australian road law to ream us with defects etc at every and any oppurtunity. So they do.

Time and time again you see people trying to do it when notifying police about cruises etc and they just defect people and block off car parks or set up on the cruise route with a laser gun and pop people for 5km/h over. Maybe im just a bit older and jaded but ive seen the 'police cooperation' cruise/meetup thing end in tears In Adeliade when people are told 'they wont be defecting its a cruise for charity'. Dreamers.

I know it sucks and i wish it wasnt like this but if you dont want the attention you need to meet up in smaler groups in less conspicuous areas unfortunately. I think its only going to get worse as the years go on especially with these bullshit anti association laws coming in now which are a fucking joke.

I've seen a few big meets turn really bad where a young girl was killed at one in front of many bystanders... Unfortunately it is impossible for the police to differentiate between the a good meet and a bad one.

Either way, we've had smaller successful meets where police have turned up, a nod given and they continued on their way.

Agreed, it is hard and there will never be a proper relationship with police but hey...they (BRC) tried I spose.

The anti association laws are not enforceable on that kind of event though.
( Section 5 (2) - Line 17 - 20 as per definition and some other sections that can be and have been used with regard to police to citizen negotiation at the time)
(However section criminal code wise, 328A(4) Dangerous operation of a vehicle, Line 13, page 13 incorporates the idiot factor where the tide turns a little but not totally depending on who and what).
So the story goes there are people testing it constitutionally regarding the validity of the law, not sure on the progress though (this being a state law vs common law etc).

Can't remember (Aust Street Car sponsored?), but there was a meet last year where the police sat at the front gate for an actual car show defecting etc. Very poor form.
General on the beat police mostly are not too bad if you pass the attitude test, traffic branch however are just out for scalps no matter what the situation.
It is what it is I spose....

Similar to the old school operation drag that was on the coast those years ago, when they first opened they let everyone in then ran all the cars over the pits getting out at one of the events. Was total crap.
But after being told no one was coming if that was the case, they lightened up and gave more advisory information to cars that were over the top defect wise and an opportunity to either fix it or not come back without fine.

An interesting strategy for a cruise would be get everyone to chip in for police escort being a marked car at the front and back of the group (one of the really big cruises) to out troll the police with that.

I still remember Harry's Diner back in the day with massive crowds having to be cleared out by the police and dogs. I got defected there a few times but got up in court on 1 getting it reversed.
Problem there was idiots always turn up and wreck it for everyone. The smarter crowd, organised the races there and then left split up to meet somewhere quiet to race or have fun then come back later.

Was more curious to see who from the 86 crowd if any went. Though I'd think quiet several car mountain runs would be more the order of this group.

Without descending further into an us v them debate...

I know a few regular police officers who have a massive disdain for traffic police. I've been lucky enough to encounter some good traffic police that were actually doing their job, rather than looking to defect for the sake of it. My 1st and only defect on my Sprinter was after it's engine conversion where the exhaust was too close to the ground. He could tell I wasn't out to make trouble, gave me 3 months to fix it and I did.

There was/is a member of these forums that used to work at Caboolture station, when I took it there to prove the defect was removed he and the senior DI had a great chat with me about cars and Toyota's.

At the end of the day we can't really win in a lot of these situations, no matter how well behaved we are.
