Default KE30 Brake Booster into AE86

    Hi Everyone!

I have a KE30 Brake Booster that I am going to be installing into my AE86 (More room for ITBS ), I have done a bit of research but can't seem to find a answer if it is a straight bolt in.

I know if you want to install the KE30 booster in to a KE70 the studs that go through the firewatt have to be drilled out and extended / rewelded, Is this the case for the AE86?

Also what about piston and rod length?

I am going to pull mine out tonight and measure the two side by side, I just wanted to see if anyone else has done this before I pull mine out.

I Will probably also upload some photos so peps can see,

    Thanks.

When you have those measurements and photos of them side by side I would like to if possible use them for an article. I wish to show people the options available as real figures not out there.

As for your questions it's meant to bolt right up but I don't know for sure so I would like to know myself.

Does anyone have a AE86 booster that is off the car? can you measure the length of the firewalls studs and the stud that attaches to the brake pedal?

Also Sam, I am 100% up for helping with an article, my goal is to use the 20V air box but I can see how this will also help people with longer stacks!

KE70 and ae86 share pattern I think, and ke70 and ke55 share pattern. KE55 is the same diameter as ke30 booster. I think it will work with ke55 booster for sure, but I know not if the ke30 uses exactly the same 4 bolt pattern. Rod length is easy to adjust. Some ke55 boosters also share the same mc pattern as jdm ae86. I think Johnny Rochester is an expert on this topic, and he could confirm, if he still watches this space.

The aussie spec Starlet (EP91) bolts right up and is slimmer without being a smaller diameter. This should mean the same amount of assistance which is important to some. A plus for everyone is how common they are and the age difference. The KE30 Corolla's are pretty damn old now and I would say even allowing for the reduced assistance may not provide that much assistance anymore. Maybe someone can tell me what a reco can cost. The starlets on the other hand are not even 15 years old yet from what I have seen. I plan on pulling one out soon so I can provice specs on that front.

As for an unmodified ST OEM airbox your clutch master is the issue, unless you have an auto which I think I can rule out or you have an internal master then your not going to do too well. I am curious why though, OEM velocity stacks flow terrible. Legalities?

I can confirm that the KE30 booster is 100% NOT a bolt in option,

The studs are 15mm to short to go through the firewall and the rod that attaches to the brake pedal is to long and needs to be cut down, will upload pictures later today.

Sam - I wonder how much clearance a EP91 booster would give me? And yes I am planning on running the ST airbox for legalities.

Bit of a revival on this thread. Have a similar issue right now, velocity tubes not hitting, but awfully close to the booster, maybe 3mm?

Matty/ Sam, did you ever find out whether the EP91 booster was a straight bolt in option? Do you retain the old master cyl as well, or use the starlet? If so, how does that effect pedal pressure/ travel?

I can confirm they fit in without mods, they are about 25mm slimmer and being the same diameter should provide the same assistance.

Unfortunately it doesn't help with the clearance with the stacks overly much as the bellmouth is still in the way. Running 70mm stacks and filters might be an option though, I don't know for sure as I have not tried it.
