    Default Westfield SEiW Clubman

    Hi guys,

I thought I would post up my car. Although it's not an AE86, it has the heart of one, and his a helluva lot of fun on windy roads! It's a 2001 Westfield SEiW Lotus 7 replica. Has what I believe is a JDM big port RWD 4AGE with JDM T50 attached to it. Rear end is bespoke Westfield IRS using an Escort diff in custom housing. I believe the ratio is somewhere around 4.7 ish.

I haven't had it on a weighbridge, but it's in the vicinity of 600kg. It goes very well, and is brilliant around corners! It's got some kind of Dunlop wheels which I can't find info on, and Toyo R888 tyres. As far as I know the engine is standard, but with a crappy old Injec EM3 standalone ECU (if anyone has or knows of a hand controller for one of these, please let me know!) and it made 118.2rwhp.

Plans are to build the 5AGE stroker engine that my wife is getting me for my birthday (it's from my brother Nafe's AE86, which some of you may remember) with good rods and pistons, probably from Brian Crower, silvertop throttles, cams and head work. I also planning on painting the car in the near future, and eventually a bit of a re-trim/freshen up of the cockpit is in order, which will include making a carbon fibre dash.

    Here's some pics

At the moment I am having trouble selecting reverse and fifth gear when stationary. It's as if the shifter kind of won't go far enough to the right to find those gears. A few people have suggested it could be something to do with the remote shifter. It appears a home made remote shifter was used when the car was built. I'll pull it out when I get a chance and post pics.

That's all for now, I'll put some more pics up when I have a chance.

    Cheers,
    Bren

i love these so much. quite a few years ago when i was driving my 4agze ke70 an almost identical clubman to yours pulled up beside me in capalaba. had a good chat to the owner at the lights and he was running a turbo 20 valve.

that seems like a pretty high hp figure for a stock bigport? and the 5a plan sounds awesome
    stroked 2L ca18-ae86 in the build...eta xmas 2012?

To the guys saying owning a 7 replica is on your bucket list, all I can say is do it. I love this car. It's such a raw driving experience!

Johl, turbo 20v in one of these would be crazy! Personally I don't think they need turbo's, they are quick enough N/A.
It does seen to make a fair bit of power for a standard bigport, but it may not be standard. They guy I bought it off new absolutely nothing about the car ay!

Oh, and my brother bought me a set of silvertop quads for my birthday! So when I get around to replacing the crappy ECU, because I have had no luck finding a hand controller for tuning it, I will get an adapter and put them on. Sam-Q is currently in the process of developing one, and I am eagerly awaiting his progress

Had a few problems with the gearbox coming up to the Oakey sprints. It stopped going in to fifth and reverse. No grinding or crunching, just felt like the gearstick wouldn't go far enough over to go in. I changed the gearbox oil for fresh stuff and that fixed the fifth and reverse problem. But caused 2nd gear not to work... Because of the engine/gearbox location there is a remote shifter, to move the stick back a few inches. It was decided to check this for play/defects etc. Pulled the top cover off the extension housing/shifter assembly and the four bolts were finger tight. There was an old broken shifter bushing in the remote extension, so that was removed, but everything look alright. Put it back together and it seems better now.

There is a problem with third though that has been there since I bought the car. Every now and then it grinds a bit going in, so probably needs new synchro for third, but when I put it in the gear stick returns to about half way to the neutral position, even though it is in gear. It is very strange. It works though, and the sprints are this weekend, so it is staying how it is. All I will do is change the gearbox oil for more suitable stuff. I got the wrong GL rating, and also want to see if I can find a good mineral oil.

Before the sprints I need to check/change reverse light bulbs, put 13in wheels on, rig up a cool air feed to the dizzy, and change the gearbox oil. Not much to do, but not long to do it

It has been a while since I have posted in this thread. Not a great deal has changed. I did the Oakey sprints and came second. The thermo fan stopped working so it started overheating in traffic. Fixed this last night with a new relay. The left headlight doesn't work, so I need to replace this. It's not just a matter of replacing the bulb though, because it has sealed beams. I have wanted to replace the housings on the headlights anyway, so I'll do it all at once. There are some CREE LED ones on eBay that I want, but not paying $600 for the pair :p

Apart from that it's going pretty good. Went for a nice little drive today and everything went how it should. There is a little motorkhana event on in one of the little towns in the Lockyer Valley in a couple of weeks. I'll be entering that, but never done a motorkhana before, so a bit nervous :p

So it turns out that the head has been ported, and on a flow bench it flowed enough for 205hp. That helps make sense of the dyno figure Now I just need to build the stroker, and then get some big cams

Yesterday I went to a little motorkhana come and try day. Rocked up and it turns out it was in a guys paddock! The event was help on dirt/grass. True grassroots motorsport And Jesus it was fun!! I absolutely thrashed the car, and showed it very little sympathy, and it performed quite well and got me home at the end of the day!

They had the paddock split in two and were running two courses at once. These were timed. At the end of the day the total times for all courses was added up and that was how they determined the winner. I came second in my class and fourth outright. Not bad

Then once all of those courses were finished they did a last man standing elimination race. Set each side of the paddock up identically, with the start/finish gate at one end and three witches hats placed in a row about 50m away. The rules were simple. Go as fast as you can, drive between the left and centre hat, fast u-turn to go through the centre and right hat, then get back to the finish gate before the guy next to you. The catch was, to finish the race you need to do a handbrake u-turn before the finish gate and reverse in! I won this event Beat everyone I was up against, even though the car was a bit moody.
