    Default GX81 Cresta

Picked up a new daily to use in preparation for the Celica to undergo some reasonably extensive work to the underside of the car.

    A basic rundown.

    '89 GX81 Cresta Super Lucent G
    1G-GZE Supercharged
Trust 1G-GE headers (modified to fit the GZE)
Full 2.5"(?) exhaust with the factory cat and a single straight through muffler
J160 6 speed (ex IS200) with a custom shifter to line up with the factory location
Button clutch (probably going to change this though)
    BC BR coilovers
    MX83 Grandé LSD
All the rear end bushes replaced with semi-solid replacements

The car is currently running on R32 GT-R wheels (16×8J +30) but I have a set of later style AVS Model 6 that I'd like to fit. I test fitted one of the rears and they poke a little too much for my liking, so I'll probably just find another less aggressive pair to make everything nice and tidy.

There's a few small imperfections in the body, but nothing too serious. A couple of dings in both passenger side doors, the clear coat on the roof and the boot lid are also starting to peel and there are some rust holes around the boot seal at the base of the rear windscreen.

I've just ordered a Momo Super Indy wheel and a matching handmade wooden gearknob to go in the car and there are a couple of other small things that will get fixed along the way, but it will probably stay as it sits for a little while longer.

    Fun times!

Thanks, guys. Oddly enough, not really much of a find, since I got it from a friend of a friend, haha.

Not too much to update so far. I replaced the temp gauge sender, so the dash gauge works again. I also sussed out the thermostat situation to see if anything locally delivered matches up, but so far it looks like I'll end up ordering a genuine item ex. Japan.

I did order a new set of coilpacks though, which did sting a little. One of the original coils died shortly after the previous owner took ownership of the car, so he ended up replacing it with a 7M-GTE item to get the car running again. While it works fine, I figured that if one of the coilpacks died, then the other two original ones still in the car are probably not that far off, so I'll be replacing them all and keeping the other two on hand as spares.

Got my haul of parts in the mail the other day. Apparently I should have double checked the appropriate boss kits though, because I ordered the wrong one. I'll order the correct boss kit after Christmas/New year. I'm really chuffed with the wood gearknob though. It has a nice feel and it's cool to know it was handmade. The best part is that the wood itself is fragrant and smells amazing.

Later that evening I accidentally another set of AVS.

16×7J +30. Effectively the same as the GT-Rs, but an inch narrower. I'll get these cleaned up a bit and resprayed in pearl white and run them as my daily wheels.

I spent this afternoon replacing the coilpacks, leads and plugs and made an attempt to fix a couple of small vacuum leaks between the AFM and the throttle body. No real noticeable gain in power, but it does feel a lot smoother and less hesitant than before, which is nice. The two remaining original coilpacks were showing signs of dying with the outer casing starting to crack in places. Either way, I've got two usable spares still and it gives me some peace of mind knowing that the ignition side of things is up to scratch. No photographs, because it looks exactly the same under the bonnet.
