Hey Guys another update, seeing as im just waiting for parts at the moment i went to work on removing the fiber glass cover on the left rear quarter panel. I had assumed it had been put on to cover damage like the one on the other side, and that it would have rusted out the metal underneath. However after getting the million pop-rivitis out i found the panel was completely fine! no rust either which is amazing as i have yet to find any real rust on the car.

    (just dirty no rust)
Makes me wonder why the hell someone would drill holes in a panel to pop rivit a cover onto it? The previous owner has essentially destroyed this panel by drilling holes in it for no reason.
Im going to clean it up, bog the holes and give her a coat of paint, probaly sometime next week as i have run out of money already this week!

Any chance you can use a mig and weld the holes up instead of welding them

I had to weld up all of my over fender holes not long ago, how big are the holes? I had 9mm holes from the riv nuts and had to cut little 15mm squares out of thin steel to put behind the hole, tack weld on, grind flush and bog smooth, gives it some reinforcement

Just make sure you dont heat the panel up to much when welding the holes otherwise it'll warp. And paint the inside of the panel after welding or it will rust from the inside.
Check under the rear window trims for rust, common spot, same goes for the top windscreen channel, better to do it once and properly. Use something like por15,

Solder or braze it . You will need a good flux in the solder proccess . File the repair area , then etch prime it before undercoating . Also make sure you etch prime the other side to seal it so it does not rust later . You will need to remove rear interior panels , but worth the effort . Some early TOYOTA's do not even have undercoat behind the interior panels . A T18 I did some months ago had areas of raw steel , no rust proofing or undercoat , covered in surface rust . So worth a look if the car is a keeper .
